Hi I have a constant brake light switch on even when the car is turn off . When I step On the brakes , it does not give that extra glow.
I have to remove the tail light fuse to stop the tail light. I have check both the bulbs at the taillights and swap new fuse but in vain. When I remove the tail light fuse, my high beam indicator turns on even when my engine is turn off. Anyone has any experience or tips? I never install any new radio or electrical things to the car. It's a 1989 wt

Cheers

check your brake fluid, there is a low level indicator that will light up the handbrake light on the dashboard when you have low fluid.

Brake fluid is good . It's the constant brake tail lights that's annoying me . Only things that light up on my dash when I remove the taillight fuse is the high beam indicator on my dash board

Unplug it from the loom. Plug will be about 70mm away from the switch located near the top of the brake pedal.

Yeah I make sure everything is off including my engine . So annoying . Highbeam indicator lights up when I pull out the tail light fuse to stop my tail lights from turning on whole night . I have to now remove the both head light fuse as well so I don't have the high beam indicator on my dash

The only way to get the brake lights to come on with the switch disconnected is if there's a short in the wiring - the high beam indicator coming on when the fuse is pulled would also point in that direction.

And whilst I might be wrong on this - I believe the question on the parklamps being on was not meant from the point of view that you had switched them on (or off) but whether they were lit.

It is possible - if there is a defective or missing ground - to have current flow through the park lamp filament and then the brake lamp filament (although it's usually the other way around).

Looking back at your posts, I think what needs to be done is accurately defining the symptom.

You talk about having constant brake lights, about having to remove the tail lights fuse to get the tail lights to go out, and not getting that extra glow when you step on the brake.

I would suggest you remove the bulb from the housing (if it's a separate socket, if not, remove the lens) so you can see which filament is lit and when - there should be two separate filaments, one for tail and one for brake.

Guessing which filament is lit from the outside based on the brightness can be quite misleading - just as an example - you step on the brake and there is no extra glow could mean that the brake light filaments aren't coming on at all.

The high beam light is also a indercator for a blown brake fuse so that is why it comes on. If the brake lights are coming on with the key off and removed then ya must have other issues with wireing as well

Really?? None of the Suzuki diagrams I've looked at show ANY connection whatsoever between the brake light circuit and the highbeam indicator.

They are all essentially the same, Sierra, Samurai, Vitara, Grand Vitara - right down to the wire colors - fuse <--green wire--> brake light switch <--green/white wire--> brake lights. If you have ABS the green/white wire will go to the ABS, if you have automatic transmission, the green/white wire will go to the PCM.

I thought everyone knew high beam - brake light connection? Maybe it is just Aust deliverd sierras? Anyway every Sierra I have seen with a perminatly on high beam dash light had a brake fuse or globe issue? Fix the issue and then the high beam light works as it is meant to

I had a issue similar too this was when I was installing a new front park light/indicator.. I found out that the ground which connects with the headlight ground was broken and was causing my brake lights to stay on.

Maybe check if the grounds from the headlight's / park lights / front indicators are on properly and that the lugs are clean from any contaminants..

Best of luck man

You need to be clear on which lights are coming on

is it the brake lights or the tail lights, they are both in the same housing but are separate circuits, also are the front parklights coming on

if you are pulling the taillight fuse out and the high beam light comes on, that is actually normal believe it or not

If that fuse fixes the problem of the lights coming on its likely a problem in the combination switch, try unplugging that, under the steering column at the base of the dash there are several plugs, unplug the one with the most wires then see if the lights come on

1 - The headlight grounds through the switch, so if that's broken all that happens is the headlights don't turn on.

2 - The front park lights & indicators ground at the front, the rear park lights, number plate light, indicators & brake lights ground at the rear - a broken ground in front will cause the front park lights to ground through the indicator wiring and the rear ground, a broken ground in the back will cause the rear lights to ground through the indicator wiring and the front ground.

In both of the above cases, if the park lights are switched off, the indicators will ground through the park light wiring and which ever ground remains intact - however - because the brake lights are on a separate circuit, they will not light with an open ground.

So do you think mine is not a grounding issue ?

Since you seem to be addressing that to me - when you let me know EXACTLY which filaments are constantly lit - I will answer your question. Based on the symptoms you list, it could be that your park lamps are constantly lit and your brake lights not working at all.

One thing is for certain - and this is the reason for the post you quoted - the headlight grounds are not a part of the equation.
