I had to go out and buy a G16 starter motor for the conversion so I picked up a baleno one today. It doesnt fit the BenT adapter. By a long way. ![]() ![]() with the motor in approximately the right position in the centre of the cutout only one hole lines up, the other is almost hanging off the plate. I haven't read anywhere that I need a particular kind of starter motor other than a "1.6" but it seems I do. Is a 1.6 vitara starter motor different? has anyone else had this problem? |

Pretty sure the Baleno starter is different, as they use a different gearbox to the vitara. You'll need to get a 16v vitara starter. |

thanks fatzook i thought that would be the case. and I would have thought this would crop up quite often with everyone chasing baleno engines for their conversions. back to the wreckers.... this time I will have adapter in hand. |

If it is a g16b baleno block, they have a lot more metal around starter area. And you need to carry block around to make sure it fits, nah just kidding, but you will need a starter with a small diameter motor and gears in the housing just like the baleno starter. Maybe of X90 or late model G16a/b efi vitara. (not carby models ? ) You can grind a 1.3 starter to suit. |

Most new starters for G16B are small body, so should be fine. |

Yeah, I bought the starter because of the narrow body but wasn't aware of the different bolt patterns for them. hopefully will have the right one in a couple of hours. BenT instructions mention grinding the 1.3 starter but it wasn't recommended. The engine swap is happening this weekend so I want to have all my ducks in a row as much as possible. I cant afford to have the car out of action for too long. |

My LWB Vitara G16B 1993 runs a fat starter that looks like the 1.3. It still fits now I have the G16A EFI Swift import motor fitted. Don't know if this is relevant, but may help someone. |

So they couldn't find a narrow bodied 1.6 vitara starter motor in the racks and piles of suzuki starter motors they had. But I ended up with a JTD (new GV J24B) starter motor. fits the adapter, narrow body, same gear teeth size thrust distance etc as the jimny 1.3 one I had to compare it to. Looks the goods, will report back if it works. |

I can confirm the JTD J24B starter motor (narrow body) is good for 1.6 conversions. |
