Post subject:  where do i start?

Hey guys,
First post, forgive me if this question has been asked before but I had a search and could'nt reall find a definitive answer.
I just bought the wife a new car so Ive inherited her old zook (92 widetrack sierra) to use as my daily.
Went up some tracks on the weekend with a mate and had a ball so I want to tweak it a little to get some more out of it.

Its all stock as a rock at the moment aside from a GTi motor I chucked in it a few years ago.

Question is where do I start?I dont want anything that will stick out at the cops too bad so was thinking maybe front and rear lockers and some small as possible mud tyres?Maybe a small lift?I really dont want to spend a fortune if I don't have too and I dont mind cutting and welding ect if needed.

Mostly being used on tracks (nothing to gnarly) mud and stockton dunes.

Thanks for any help.

Shayne

Budget?

1. Remove sway bar
2. tyres - size will necessitate degree of clearance/lift work, and gearing
3. guard chop
4. ruf and/or 2" spring lift if required
5. gearing if required
6. lockers and chromos in the front.
7. inboard springs to narrow track spacing to gain more articulation without lift, inboard bump stops too.

235/75r15 treads
4:1 tcase gearing
Some longer shocks

You would be surprised where these light mods will get you, especially coming from a stocker. No need for lifted springs, the stockers unless completely buggered flex and ride quite well with a descent set of shocks.

Ok,
Made a start last weekend, front sway bar has gone and ive made up a front tube bar to get rid of the outriggers for the standard bumper.
a mate has passed on a set of long travel front shocks he had in his as well as some 15" sunnies with 30/9.5/15 muddies, how much will i have to lift it to use those tyres?(if any) and what is the most useable form of lifting? eg springs, bodylift, extended shackle ect?
cheers for the advice guys.

I've pretty much done what was recommended in this thread. --> viewtopic.php?f=5&t=34597&hilit=sierra+practical

2" Spring lift
6.5 Transfer gears
Chromo CV's and axles
I had the bonus of the car already having a 2"Body lift and my 31" Muddies have heaps of clearance.

I think the only thing left to do is lock the rear diff and a few other shit bits.
Have a squiz at what I've done in just over a month of owning it :) viewtopic.php?f=4&t=34962

30s wont need any lift, maybe a little bumpstop spacing in the front but you should be fine with no outriggers.

Spring lift is for when you need better approach/departure/ramp over angles.

Body lift is for when you need more tyre clearance (you wont) and don't want to chop the guards.

Shackle lift is for poser cunts who think their 70 series/Hilux is fully sik bro. However, when combined with longer springs and/or moved mounting points, extended shackles can be useful.

What's the best tyre and rim profile on 30s to suit stock 89 wt then?

I'd go a 15x6 if you can find them. I run 15x7-6 on my 1l without any problems but that's a NT of course.
