bought it for $20, looked like ass. cracked it open figuring i would have to replace most of it. but it all looked in ok shape, do the bearings look original or have they been replaced, what kind of wear should i look for on the idler shaft and how much play should the bearings have.

also having trouble getting the idler shaft out if some one has any tricks

Out sides pretty rough inside looks a hell of a lot better than mine

thats what i was expecting mine to look like maybe i'll just put it back together and be happy with it. yeah it was $40 for the t/case and four sunny rims with shitty 31's

should the bearings be semi sealed like the one ive got, all the rebuild kits are oped face bearigns?

You could probably run either. Sealed bearings are not completely sealed, the oil would of gotten in them slowly.

How does the bearing 'feel'? rough? side to side motion too much play?

You can always pick the seal out gently and cut it off


My case looked like that, Amazing what a wire brush will do :)
