G'day AZ people,

Quick noob question, what's the best way to drain pretty much a full tank from a Vitara...

Tried syphoning it but I can't get a hose past the filler neck & into the tank, just wondering if they have an anti syphon thing in the filler hose? As it seems to come to a dead stop just before the tank.

I need to remove the tank guard & was hoping to drain the tank so it wasn't so heavy with near enough 50+ litres in it plus I want to burn the fuel I steal in my wagon.

Any other pro tips would be handy.

If its EFI just disconnect the return line at the motor and run into a jerry can and start the engine

or could hook up a cheap elec pump on the pick up line from the tank and just pump into jerry can or straight into the wagon if you want

Would be a slow way of doing it but will get the job done

pretty sure they have a ball valve in the neck at the tank end.

bugger, figured they'd have an anti syphon in there. will have to figure a way to drain it as it's currently not running.

Pull it out, Pull pump out, Turn it upside down. Only way to get it dead empty.

The anti syphon thing can be a rollover thing too. It would help stop loosing all your fuel

tank doesn't need to be empty, just wanted to make it easier to remove the guard... CBF'd dropping the whole tank at the moment.

Last time I took a tank out I tried siphoning and used 1/2" hose used in garden irigation systems. It's hard stuff so I could 'guide' the hose past the anti-siphon trap. Problem was the tank was too low for me to siphon with suction into a jerry can. Petrol doesn't taste too good and I after a couple of mouth-fulls I gave up! If I had a pump then I reckon it wouldn't be too hard.

just a thought..
Remove the rear bolts, loosen the front ones, enough squeeze the bolt between the guard and tighten then it back up, remove the front bolts.

no need to remove the fuel or tank..

Or run a strap under the tank and have the chassis support it while you undo the bolts.

That's the plan & it's how it was installed, but with an almost bone dry tank it was still a handful. I'm not even going to attempt it with a full tank of fuel.

Rebus, I have a Jiggler... it's about 1/2" in diameter & pretty stiff fuel resistant hose, I could feel it & hear it coming to a stop as it hit the valve. I'll have another go & see if I can push past it.

I only want the fuel out as I'm a Jewlord & don't want to spend any of my Gypsy Gold on a tank of 98ron when I have a full tank sitting there going stale.

Also, if you already have a tank guard on it, put a trolley jack under it, unbolt it, then lower it down and slide the tank in the guard off the jack (opposite side to fuel filler so you don't spill it!).

Or, if it's an EFI Vit, couldn't you take the fuel line off the regulator, direct it into a container and turn on the ignition to pump it out? Might take a while but it'd work wouldn't it?

10mm drill bit
Drill a hole in the lowest bit
Catch the fuel in a bucket
Patch the hole with kneedit or similar product
Bask in the glory of a job done with awesomeness.
