| Post subject: | Vit 3" lift. Extended brake lines & rear axle spacer needed? |
Hey guys Ok so with a 3" lift for my 97 Vitara do I need to lengthen the brake lines and do a rear axel spacer (http://www.bits4vits.co.uk/store/vitara ... od_42.html) or can I get away without doing both? im planning on puttin something like these in the back: http://www.bits4vits.co.uk/store/vitara ... d_173.html with 1.5" spacers and doing a strut mount flip with 15mm spacers in the front. Also doing a diff drop to save my CV's I currently have a 40mm spring and shock lift. is there anythingelse I need to account for? thanks! - Charlie |

You can probably get away with unclipping brake lines, but for the small cost I'd say it's worth getting some longer braided lines at least for the front. Rear driveshaft spacer definitely a good idea. Otherwise get a pair of camber bolts if you don't already, and book in for a wheel alignment. |

The rear drive shaft is on a slip yoke at the transfer end. Lift increases the distance from the transfer to the diff, so at full droop the drive shaft can slide off the transfer output. Bump-stops will depend on how things clear with it all fitted - if the shocks bottom out or the springs bind, or if the tyres scrub on guards longer bump-stops can help. |

That is a driveshaft spacer, bolts between the shaft flange and the pinion flange. Rear control arm spacer (usually called balljoint spacer) bolts between ball joint of rear control arm and top of diff. Allows more downtravel before balljoint runs out of movement. Also a good idea if you're lifting 3" or you'll flog it out pretty quick. |

thanks that makes more sense now =P ^^ Im just looking at diff drop brackets (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/320951787290 ... 1438.l2649) and im just wondering if you can use the same bolts that were already there/is there anything I need to know or are they all pretty standard when buying and fitting? thanks again |

Same bolts are fine, as long as you don't trash them getting them out or back in. Otherwise it's a simple but shitty job - front up with stands under chassis, jack under diff to take load off bolts. Stock brackets out, new ones into upper mounts. Lower diff on jack until lower bolt holes line up. Repeat ad nauseum until they all line go in. |
