Pin bearing?

NFI what you mean. There are 2 types of bearings in a sierra transfercase. Needle bearings and roller (ball) bearings. The only one that needs a slight smear of grease is the tiny little internal needle bearing that the front output shaft runs in. The rest are bathed in gear oil.

All bearings should be lightly oiled before installation to prevent any dry damage occuring.

ok needle bearings, pin bearing, cage bearing.... whatever!
the trail-gear instructions mention greasing the needle bearings when you fit them.

I didnt replace that internal needle bearing, looked painful and i doubt theres anything wrong with it.

Bearing grease.

The oil dilutes the grease almost instantly.

Its probably the same as oiling the bearings. Just a safety net for initial start-up. In any case, a thin smear is all you will need.

okay sweet, ill just give it a little dab then. Thanks guys, i can get stuck back into it now.

OH ALSO!
the shifter ring thing in step 45... does it matter which way up that goes on? it has a bevelled edge and i can figure out if theres a difference either way!

i've never worried about it. The teeth are the same on bothe ends, so they slide just the same no matter which way tou fit the ring. I'd wager that its shaped as it is, to make casting the part easier.
