first off im not really a noob because ive been using the forum for a little while however i cant seem to ask any questions in the other sections of the forum without being treated like an idiot by people. my first problem is that i think my engine is too hot. after about 10/15 mins of 90 kmph highway driving i tested it with a thermal gun and i was getting upwards of 90 degrees c on everything (thermostat, radiator top and bottom, extractors etc) the radiator has been flushed and its not in too bad a condition but i realize i need a new one in the near future is there anything else that could be contributing to the temperature that i can fix in the meantime. my second problem is that i can only do around 95 kmph at about 3500 revs, is this normal or should i be able to go a bit quicker? ive had carby issues with the choke but i wired the butterfly open and it seemed to stop it stalling itself. basically i have no idea about the car and i want to be able to take it over a bit of distance on the highway for camping trips without multiple stops, watching the temp gauge like a hawk |

Temp seems about right. Thermostat won't fully open till about 85 (That's if you have one.) And the temp on the extractors would be way highter than 90. Remember a thermal gun will show diff temps on diff types on metals. We use one 20 times a day. Revs seems about right for the speed. But that all depends on tyres but as a general guide its about right |

That's where it's supposed to sit, if it starts jumping up and down, and doesn't maintain a constant reading just under half regardless of what you're doing then you have a problem. As Bruce said, the thermostat is either an 82 or 87 degree so about 90 degrees is right. As for speed, They sit about 3600RPM at 100km/h. If you can't get to that speed on a flat road then something is wrong. IMO get your carby fixed by a carby specialist rather than stuff with it if you don't know what you're doing. |

yeah thats exactly where the temp gauge sits, i just thought better safe then sorry. thanks for the help fellas and also i cant get it to 100 on flat road all the time sometimes with a tail wind it happens but yeah im getting the carby fixed or im getting a webber or a holly just waiting on some money |

Get your std carb fixed by someone who knows what they are doing and it should be ok. I have a 1.3 NT with 30" tyres and can sit on 100 rather easy. |

i run standard wheels with standard sized maxis trepadoors and the timing is fine so me thinks the carby is to blame |

advance the timing a few degrees... i set mine to factory specs, struggled to hold 90... advanced it (dont know exact amount, but at a guess 10 or more degrees advanced) and now hold 100 easily. running 31's on 1L diffs and transfer with a std 1.3 engine. it doesnt like 91 octane, but i dont use less than 95 anyway. |

Hi people, just wondering , I have a situation when the car starts up in the morning, the temp gauge does goes up all the way till it almost hit the red mark and then it drops back to below 1/2. Is this normal or? Cheers |

Try earthing out the wire that clips onto the sensor, the gauge should go to hot, if it doesn't then the is a problem in that wire/gauge. Otherwise the little sensor could be dodgey. |

I ran mine at 10 deg at 2000 rpm and at vacuum advance at 13 to 14 |
