A nice simple one again, but something I cannot find in the workshop manual.
When first starting my G16B Vitara it sits on about 2000rpm and as it warms, gradually reduces back to around 1000rpm and idles smoothly.
Is this normal for these vehicles, or does mine have a problem.

Thanks,
Kev.

2000rpm might be a bit higher than normal but yes its exactly what they are supposed to do

opposite? as in not idling high at all? there is a little screw under a small black cap near the throttle body, give that half a turn and it should help.

Can I use this to reduce the revs on start up or should I just leave it at the 2000 mark.

Thanks,

Kev

Hi all,
I'm not sure where to look for this (there is a little screw under a small black cap near the throttle body,) on my G16B.

Revs on start up are about 2200. A little bit high I think.

All help appreciated.

Thanks,
Kev.

ill take a photo of it tomorrow for ya, near the throttle position sensor there is a sunken hole with a bolt head in it. it may or may not have a black cap.

that bleed screw wont help, its only for hot idle

I cant think of anything that sets the cold idle speed, mine only runs at 1200rpm cold

if its the one im trying to describe, its turned my cold idle from 800rpm to about 1300rpm. hasnt changed my hot idle.

The cold idle is the one that I need to alter.
If you can adjust it up then surely I can adjust the revs down. It sounds too easy, so maybe Royce is right once again.
If I can locate it I'll give it a try. Can't hurt to try.
A quick photo of the spot would be a great help.

Thanks again,
Kev.

Thanks SHANDY92.
The plug was missing on mine which made it less obvious.
The photos were a great help.
Turned the adjusting screw down till it was firm and started it up. Revs stayed the same at about 2000 revs.
As the engine warmed up the revs reduced. When I altered the screw at this point the revs also altered so it looks to be the case that it maybe just the hot idle adjuster as ROYCE suggested. What a bugger, I thought this would be an easy fix.

Any other suggestions from anyone would be great.

Thanks again,
Kev.

did you try the other way...winding it out? all i know is that this adjusted my cold idle. maybe mine is special or something

Post subject:  Re: Revs on Start up?

Didn't try winding it out, so I will give that a try.
The Vitara is located at our holiday house which is not where I am at the present. I will be back over in a few weeks so I will have a play then.
I will keep you updated.

Thanks again,
Kev

Back again.
Tried winding this screw both ways. Yes, it does alter the warm idle speed up and down, but no effect on the cold idle.

Checked on Zuwharrie .com website for a solution and they suggested removing a plate on the front of the throttle body assembly and turning a washer thing around. The G16B doesn,t have this plate so maybe when they refer to the injected model they were talking about the 13B.

The revs are starting to concern me a bit now so any advice on what to do next would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Kev.

If it's the same carby as the serria, the cold idle screw is under the carby, on the thingy the cable rides on.You can only see it on full throtle.

PM Fullyzooked, he knows all about carbys.

bye

Thanks cairns27 for the reply, and at this point I probably wish that it is the carb 16A, but it's the injected 16B causing the problem.

Surely there is a fix for the injected model to reduce the cold startup revs.
Maybe not!!!
