Hi guys,

I have a 96 Sierra that the previous owner put in a Suzuki Swift GTI twin Cam G13B engine in it.
I have no idea on the age of the engine, which makes sourcing parts hard. Also have no idea if the conversion was done properly.

The engine is hard to start, and makes some horrible noises.

Step one, removed the starter motor. It’s stuffed. But I think it might be the wrong starter motor.

Is there anyway to find out the year of the engine? Assuming it’s around 89-91?

And how do I find out exactly what starter motor should be on it? I want to get it right!

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance, from a female with not much mechanical skills, but trying my best! :)

My knowledge of the G13B is minimal, but from how I understand it, it is not really possible to tell the year from the engine plate.

Can you provide some photos of your engine? The different Mks of the G13B probably have some minor (visual) parts differences.. Perhaps the resident experts then can help confirm it.

If the previous owner told you correctly and the engine really did come from a Swift GTI, the possible models that it came from should be either the AA33S(SA413) or AA34S(SF413) - I agree the latter is more likely and around your assumed date range. If you don't get a response here maybe you can find a service or parts manual for that model and try comparing with that (or in a pinch, see whether the diagrams on partsouq look the same as what you have/need).

I thought all the G13 series had the same block (therefore the same starter motor)? The g13b just has better forged internals, but the block is the same as g13a and g13ba, apart from a few differences in compression ratios ect.

I might be wrong idk!
