Has anyone else experienced their JB74 Jimny going into Limp Mode as a result of overheating ( either Engine or Automatic Transmission )?
Ive got a few different questions , so any insights would be appreciated .
Short Story : So my daughter was a Fraser on the weekend and her car went into limp mode . Her car is a 2023 Auto SWB with a 2inch lift running 215/75 AT on OEM alloy rims . No bar work and she packs very light . Tyres down to 12psi . Beach Conditions good as the tides were right BUT it was hot .
So it went into limp mode coming back through Ngkala Rocks, so they ended up assisting her through . After that they waited for her car to cool down ( peoples thoughts were it possible got overheated triggering the limp mode ).
Its due for a service so we will ask the dealer to check for codes and of course ask them why this would have happened .
As these things have no temperature gauge, apart from installing an " Engine Guard " to monitor block and auto temps , would an OB2 reader be any good for reading temperatures as I know people use these on other cars .
I've heard, the auto's can get hot pushing through sand and she should use Low Range . If this is the case is there an auto cooler that can be purchased ?

After looking at her tyres I think she could easy go down to 10psi on the beach with room to move down to 8 if needed.

Does it have a throttle controller? Often they can cause limp mode issues. Possibly though it's an ESP/ABS sensor issue. Give the sensors a good clean and see if it happens again. Low range should eliminate ESP altogether.
