Anyone recommend a descent place in Briz where I can get 'quality' uni joints and both the sierra jack and rear driveshafts balanced? Trip back home to cairns at the end of the year so I need to get rid of any vibrations! Drive you nuts after 1800k's!!

What do you mean by quality Uni Joints?
Just ask a Repco or something.. Uni joints don't differ in quality that greatly for it to matter in a Sierra.
As for the tailshaft, maybe try a gearbox n diff place?

A quality uni joint in my books is a joint that has sweet FA slop on both its axis and stays like that for more than at least 10000k's. The majority of the junk out there already has like 0.5mm movement on both axis when freshly installed and no the driveshaft ears have not splayed apart. Even when I shim the faces to get rid of the initial slop its back again not long after and exaggerates the driveshaft vibrations.

i think if you use it for wheeling, your asking alot for them to last very long.
never had any issues with ones from a normal bearing store

What it comes down to generaly is the quality of the metals used, and the hardening process's on the raceways and rollers. Besides the fact that alot of chinese product are out of tolerance, they use a tainted metal, which in alot of cases means softer, and or brittle metal.
if your using it in low shockload, low revolution application your going to be ok. But you start loading these things up and they chew out very quick

Ah i hadn't thought about metal quality.. They have bugger all QA systems inplace to check for faulty parts too..
My Zook lives a pretty stress free livestyle, so yeah no dramas with cheapo Uni's yet

x2 for Driveline Services, they built my rear diff and axles from scratch for a touch under $600, that included everything
but oil and center.

Why?
i've never had a problem with Hardy spicer either, their product and service are fantastic, i just use driveline as they seem more approachable and better priced with just as high quality product (around here anyway).

Just gave driveline services a burl. Their after $220 per shaft for new unis and balancing. Makes your custom shaft seem cheap!

Have had a few problems with them through my old work and once personally.
Hardy spicer shortened a jackshaft for $110 including freight with a 2 day turn around and i had absolutely no issues with it. Very good service
But thats just my personal experience and opinion.
