Not too fussed about low for this, mainly aiming for road and a bit of beach work... What ratio is a coily transfer?

OK fair enough.
1.32:1 in high
2.123:1 in low.

I think that will put your tacho closer to the 3600-2700rpm region. Which is where they seem to be happy.

Cool, works out to 3800rpm which is good enough for me.
