My bolts have plastic covers at the moment,
but I like the idea of protecting them with metal

Excuse my bird dung welding,
luckily no one will see it :)
I ain't no where near good enough to weld bolts inside the tube,
so this worked for me.
Decided on 5 smaller bolts, instead of 2 big ones.
Less to get hung up on,
and I have lots of them lying around.
Not sure I'll stay with the button bolts yet.

It fits. But it is too shiny, needs dirt.
Hence the grubby finger marks :D
But I need new A-arm bolts, the originals stripped,
the bolts I used are a tad too short.
That is tomorrows problem.
I'll get away with stock length bolts,
as I don't have the sway bar bracket fitted.
People who do may need longer bolts.

Cutting done.
Had to buy a new angle grinder half way through.
My Makita served me well.
(After taking back 3 Ozitos they pleaded with me to buy a better one :) )
Took a chance on another Ozito this time.
Last time I buy Ozito anything.
Would not even start.
Took it back and got a Ryobi, also cheap, but less crappy, it worked.
Ready for bending now.
Note the Hi Tek measuring and shaping eqipment :)
Think I may make, buy or borrow a decent bender,
because there's a few times I'll need one again.

Testing the booty fab bender on an offcut.
Hopefully won't snap the end off the bench.
Have large manly washers under the nuts,
but may run another bit of steel underneath.
It bent ok to the angles I need.
Would need a higher tech approach if needed sharp 90* bends

Weld some hinges between the angle and another bit facing the other way then weld a handle on it
That way u can pull down on it
You.should make 2 bottom pieces
One with a nice sharp edge for tight thin bends
The other with a nice radius for bending thicker plate
If u had like 150x10 plate on the bottom u can also cut 50mm x5mm slots so u can bend the plate with lips on the sides to gain strength

Thanks. I like those ideas, will definately look into it.
I don't trust my welding enough,
so I may think of some bolt on options.
Future project I think.

For now, I'm wanting only 45* bends maximum,
and prefer rounded corners for the bash plate.

Bender worked, I am pleased with the result. :D
Had to convert one end of my wheel bearing press into a press lever,
for the bends with only a small leverage area,
but most was done by my other huge press,
some call it my big fat ass.
I just sat on it and grunted a tad.

Next is welding, a bit of trimming, then some bolt holes and paint.
Getting there

My Monday welding may make it a little less awesome,
but I will be able to hide that with paint, dirt and mud :)

If you haven't thrown out your old Makiita grinder bring it to Robe and I will try and fix it for you..... the good brands are usually repairable.

I put it in the drawer for a future fix.
Feels like its stripped a cog.
Motor picks up revs and cutter slows down.
But I may take it for a drive to Robe :)

I doubt the Ryobi will live long.

Can anyone tell me if these button bolts are " strong " enough to bolt up the sump guard?
Can't see any markings on them.
They were sourced from hinges and doors and other areas off my old Sierra.
I have plenty of high tensile normal bolts if they aren'' t up to it.
Figured they may slide over stuff better than normal heads.
I have stepped the guard to be slightly lower than the rear bolts,
just in front of them.

Nice work.

Of course.
But 2 weeks at $15 pr hour would probably make them $1000 each
Makes the Calmini ones more appealing :|

All welded up, drilled, trimmed, and ready for paint.
I decided the rear section needed a curve, bit of extra strength,
and matched curve of the cross member.
Did a fill? weld to join it to the side bits
