without sounding like a bastard, why wouldnt it be considered? obviously the want is there judging by the number of ppl posting in here. if people dont like it they wont use it, people are entitled to that choice, simple. just seems like its being blown off without merit when theres a huge following for its usage on other forums etc. especially considering its a free plugin to install and to my understanding a simple setup. i prefer it because its no scrolling left or right or zooming in out etc. navigating links is a prick on the browser on phone. the view is customisable to your liking, and easy to view with one hand usage. and you can have widgets on your homepage. massive plus there = quick responses to topics.
Id still use the webpage just as much on the desktop so banners wouldnt suffer but those times when im on the way to work etc would be so much easier.

Based on those screen shots it looks harder to use thatn the native forum layout? Quick Check: Tapatalk - 1 action - Click on widget and it goes straight to the new posts section, scroll through. Done. Browser - 8 actions - Click on browser, select favourites, select auszookers, zoom in, 'Login' (maybe this is auto, but I haven't figured that out yet, stored my details but I still have to select the button), zoom in, select 'New Posts', zoom in a bit and scroll. sooooo much easier! This took one click:

The main reason is making stuff work on web servers is hard work if its not something you do as a full time job, when you have to learn about it as you go it takes a lot of your time. You also have to worry about it breaking, breaking other things, updating it, potential security risks (anything accesing the database directly is a rick) Its all about compromise

Fair enough, I don't know what sort of level you guys are at with servers.
Tapatalk inherits the forums security permissions so security is fine but yeah other concerns are valid if you are unsure. I haven't heard of any issues on any of the other forums I have used it on if that gives any reassurance.
Maybe a months trial or something to see what you think? If you find it's making your admin/server maintenance end a pain, then I guess uninstall it?

FWIW, with android I jsut clicked new posts, waited for it to open and saved it as a bookmark, then placed that bookmark on my homescreen with other bookmarks and can jsut press it to get the same thing. I turn of auto rotation as I find it annoys the hell out of me, always rotates when I don't want it to! But when reading threads landscape mode is helpful so I don't have to scroll sideways, but you can't fit much vertically! So it's kind of 6 of one, half-a-doxen of the other. You get none of these issues with Tapatalk, it auto scales to whatever screen width you have. Ok I didn't know you could place bookmarks on the home screen. Makes that part easier, but still have the zooming in and out/rotating the phone annoyances.

Not user permissions, actual security of what can access the database and how, imagine a hacker found a way to get in using an exploit in tapatalk and took us down? Sure the same might happen with PHPBB as well but having 2 ways in is more risk What if installing it breaks the place to start with FWIW we have a mirrored site setup to test mods before they go on here and already proper official tested ok to use stuff is breaking things

raped this from another forum having same discussion. thought it worth mentioning due to the XDA forum approval, those guys are epic mega nerds. Quote: Really feeling the love for Tapatalk and still cannot see a valid reason not to use it.
One I did noticed was the Ad's.
[Solution] Don't be tight, Pay for Tapatalk Pro and enjoy all your forums on your phone, loading quickly with instant forum notifications from all your subscriptions, without the need to zoom/pan/scan/fiddle - Ad Free!
For the security model, it has to use the model in place at the forum it's serving, hence the full support for vBulletin. It would be a pointless project if it did'nt.
The Tapatalk plugin is really easy to install.
I don't mean to point out the obvious, but surely if there was any sort of security risks with Tapatalk, XDA-Developers would not be endorsing it for their 4 million+ member forums. I understand caution, but over 18 months and **** being left behind (never thought I'd hear my self say that!!) and not a Tapatalk enabled site with anything bad to say about it...!!?
If it had any flaw's XDA would definitely not be supporting it and they would be the guys in the know for anything Smartphone/Forum security related.
I have 2 Blackberry's, 2 iPhones and an incredibly awesome Android phone at my place and they are now used far more for surfing the internet than the laptops/tablets/computers are these days.
At least give it more of chance than 12 hours
I am but a loyal/humble/surfer/watcher of **** and thought I would add my 2 cents worth to this. Just hope this no longer falls on deaf ears...!
Tapatalk FTW. Period. Peace.

Yeah XDA guys are nerds, even with a specific XDA app, Tapatalk must be great then
They also have heaps of resources to get stuff done, not 2 guys figuring it out as they go
Your quote is useless without the contect of the original thread, its jsut one copy paste supporting your view
Can anyone honestly say their browser currently doesnt scale the page to fit teh screen well now? mine is awesome

yeah fair call royce, it just summed up what i was thinking so i just copy pasted.
i can honestly say it isnt scaled well on my phone. it takes a lot more screen flicking to get it in a comfortable reading size/scale/thing, and even then i miss the next button or submit button about 1/3 of the time.
not to say your method is bad but why not have something... well better?
Hey, its your call anyways. I personally think its a shame to rule something out that is clearly popular and worked to other sites advantages, but you guys are boss and ill still be here at the end of the day supporting the AZ's. Just maybe not on my commute or any other time im not in front of a desktop.

i'd say we consider everything, but we wanted to leave the script standard for a week or two to make sure everything works. We'll gradually add new features.

I think Scales summed it up nicely. I can't say I am happy with the scaling on my phone, but I won't leave just because Tapatalk might not be installed! When phone is horizontal, it's not too bad. I still need to zoom in to reliably click on say page 2 of a thread or the "new posts" link. I can only view one average length reply at a time as well so constantly scrolling. Can view 2-3 on Tapatalk When the phone is in portrait, not a hope reading anything clearly or selecting a link/page accurately. Not an issue with Tapatalk. Can view 4 average replies at once as well all scaled to fit. Examples: Browser Landscape Browser Portrait (imagine this on a phone sized screen though... it's unusable) Tapatalk Landscape Tapatalk Portrait

Same... 2.3.5 and if you look at the screen shots, yes it scales but in portrait mode its unusable as the text is too small. If I zoom in to read it, it is no longer scaled and I have to scroll sideways as well as down to read a reply. Scaling is only part of the issue!

yeah that's the built in browser. It's significantly smaller don't forget if you are viewing this on a computer monitor! I wouldn't want it any smaller as it would be pretty unreadable.

I was skeptical for the last year thinking "$5 to few free forums? No thanks!" I gave in and bought it 2 weeks ago. It makes forum life so much easier, and faster. I use 4 main forums, 2 of them have it, 2 of them don't, I now come on AZ and another forum and think "man it would be good if they would move". My other forum they said no - I was the only one on the forum that wanted it installed (it's invite only - only about 30 members), so I keep using it on a computer. Just means I don't check it as often as the other 2 forums. If you have 5 minutes to take a quick look and see if it really is as easy as they say, then it would be much appreciated
