| Post subject: | Half Doors- Finished |
Started uni holidays like a week ago and all last week was bored shitless so I grabbed these doors of Jas (want33's) to make some half doors. this is how they looked when i got them home, (had to cut the window frames off so they would fit in my car, not as if i needed them anyway ahaha)
heres a progress shot halfway through cutting them down
and as they are as of this afternoon
all the cutting for the top is done just gotta pick up some sheet metal and uncles welder and put the plates on the top still have to cut more out of sills and pretty much make new ones cause the other ones were rusted. that'll be the fun part will post more pics as they progress |

You might want to cut a bit off the bottom and make them 5/8 doors. |

yeah im gonna cut the sills completely off i think and fab up some new ones, me and the old man already figured how to do it so it and it should be pretty easy, originally i was gonna cut the little bits of rust out and patch the sills up, turns out theres a shit load of rust so plan b came into action |

made some progress on the doors today, went and got the extra steel needed for them and welded the drivers door together
heres the new sills
and mounted
used want33's method to get the door bolts off, worked amazing well and made it so easy, i would have just struggled for hours... just got the passenger door to do then some bogging and panting to get a nice finish |

more progress on the doors, as of now they are almost primed and ready to go, primer made all the little imperfections visable so we are just neatening them out and will be ready for paint, going mat black to minimise the visabilty of imperfections. Heres some progress shots of how we mended the rusted out corner on the passengers the challenge
used speaker mesh to make the shape I was after
and with a bit of bog and sanding
and as of yesterday arvo
the shapes not perfect but its a little better then what it was, should hopefully be operational for my next wheel, but we'll see how it goes painting them this week |

heres another build progression of how we shaped the angles bit of the top, once again using speaker mesh, bog and alot of sanding, we got a nice shape out of it after my hack grinding and welding
the mesh
after some bog
after some sanding a more bogging and more sanding
and after yesterdays efforts

am trying to work out how to do door latches, is it possible to connect the latch and interior handle but not the lock or exterior handle??? not as if I cant just reach in and use the inside handle haha. my other thoughts are to use the latch off the windscreen (or something similar) either on the inside or outside to clip it into place, but was thinking this might be a little dodgy... |

That's the way I'd do it, a handle on the outside would keep Johny law a little happier, their theory is that if you have an accident any old tard can get the door open. cause it take a friggen genius to look for a handle on the inside So you zook is going to have shaved handle's then?? |

Half of the reason i did them was for the challenge and for something to do, I'm a uni student so its all books and keyboards, I like to make shit and be productive with my hands on my holidays (plus i learnt heaps about welding and grinding and body repairs/fabrication) the other half was cause i thought i could make them for cheaper then $150 but looking back I'll stick with the I wanted something to do reason haha |

OOHH! I just had a great idea! Get some tube of the appropriate size and weld into the top of the door where your arm rests. Cup holder
Leave enough room for a stubby coolere aswell |
