I picked up some 2.5mm 9018 rods (Esab 9018-B3) the other day (they were cheap). Reading up about them they are made for cr-mo steels, but it doesn't say much about using them on normal mild steel. I'm thinking they should be OK. I'm going to have a crack with them, just wanted to hear what the welders amongst us have to say.

A quick read then says the weld might cool differnt to teh base steel and might promote cracking

FWIW we are currently importing a metric bucket load of pipe and fittings from Germany that would be perfect for these rods, cause lots of people had a crack at it and told lots of stories the customer may not have a use for it by the time it arrives, might be able to do you a deal :)

The welding rod code means "9018" "90" thousand pound tensile strength "1" stands for all positions "8" is the type of flux coating, they will be fine for mild steel run them on DCEP or DC+ for best results
