In 2019 I rebuilt my 1999 Jimny converting to an M18A, VVT model gearbox and electric shift transfer case. (All using parts sourced fairly cheaply as was available) Even got it mod plated in SA with lockers & 2" lift. The electric shift was never a favourite and when it developed a problem after 35,000km, requiring its removal, I decided to go one step further and fit a 2020 JB74 manual shift transfer case. Whilst this is not a cheap option, ($2k) I liked the idea of manual shift again and the car still only owed me less than half of a new JB74. Suzuki have not reinvented the wheel either. The mountings fit the older arms , the flanges all align and the shift lever hole is correct, boot and all. What I did need to address was the lack of speedo sensor (due to ABS wheel speed sensors doing this job now) The new case still has the casting for an original type speedo sensor, so I dismantled the back of the transfer case and drilled a 18.5mm hole to allow the fitting of the earlier sensor. Also, I had to drill & tap the 6 mm mounting bolt. The output flange hardened spacer is no longer a tone wheel for the speedo so this was replaced by Suzuki part number 29411-76J00 (about $80) Whilst it is slightly different, it is dimensionally identical and has so far worked correctly. I also added a breather extension fitting. There is limited clearance so i ended up with a 90 degree fitting to clear the floor. I am very happy with the result. My Suzuki is used in remote parts of northern SA so I liked the manual swap. (I am an auto elec and didn't trust the corroded electric motor I kept seeing!) . I have a slight vibration under hard acceleration only and will be investigating this. Otherwise no issues.

Makes you ponder if the auto would work in a similar fashion
