Just seeing if there would be any interest if I made up some of these bulkhead terminals
looking for expression of interest and ideas on what diameter bolts people would like

the more I get made the cheaper they will be but im guessing probably 12 bucks each depending on the size
youre welcome to use your own hardware I am just going to get the insulation and orings organized through my work
figure I will make the flange end of the insulation 5mm and the wall section as it goes through the bulkhead 3mm

this is a pic of something already available and a drawing (rough) of what the profile I am thinking of might look like

Nice design but this misses part of the advantage of the Moroso style pass-through (as shown in the photo) both sides have a stud so you don't have to get a spanner on to a live terminal under the dash and in the engine bay at the same time to disconnect the battery.

In a perfect world the cut out in the bulkhead wouldn't be round so the whole fitting wouldn't move, and the stud would be threaded into the fitting, leaving a stud and nut on each side.

I could actually make the ID undersize so you had to thread the bolt into it. I hear you about not wanting to put a spanner on it. The hardware is up for re design im looking for feedback. For a small batch for myself i can get them done for free but thought icwould see who wants in and make it cheap

I'd be interested in a pair or 2 if you can sort the above issue.

10mm stud/bolt

quick cost on M10 if I did it out of allthread with a combination of different material for the nuts, washers etc to keep costs down but making sure that the thread, nut and washer in contact with the lug are brass is $5.90 per set, but can bump that up to $3.50 to make it pretty

need to check what galvanic party times brass and zinc have together

smaller threads will obvioussly be cheaper

this is also based on making 9 units

guess I have to go grovel to the machining guys and see what they can do for me for the insulation, probably in nylon

and when I say "maybe 3mm dia" for the orings I mean cross section i cbf drawing it again

Post subject:  Re: bulkhead terminals

ok so probably get rid of the zinc flanged nut and put another stainless one in there in it's place, maybe even a nyloc

Post subject:  Re: bulkhead terminals

so i have just spent 4 hours looking on ebay to get some costing sorted
assuming the machining of the isolation part comes in as expected I should be looking at around $18 + post for the 10mm terminals and $10 + post for some 6mm terminals

my layout is between 400 and 500 D: this could be a terrible idea hahaha

thoughts/feedback??

Post subject:  Re: bulkhead terminals

it will be a brass nut at the top then a brass washer, then your lug or cable etc (allowing 2.5mm) then a stainless washer, then a "half nut" to bring down the size, then a stainless washer, then the urethane isolater
I might just make up a shit one out of steel and what I have in the shed first and put a pic up once I get the machined parts back

Post subject:  Re: bulkhead terminals

the brass allthread for the m10 ones is $70 :S :S :S and the brass m10 nuts are like $43 which makes the m10 ones way more expensive to build

Ouch!

Just measured the lugs I have here, They're 3mm. Not sure if that helps or hinders

thats the 6mm, theyre pretty much finished, I will work pricing out soon and I guess put them up on the sell section of the forum.
they will be less than 20 bucks but the bitch is going to be postage because AUSPOST considers anything thicker than a letter a "package"
I can send overnight from my work for ten bucks up to 3kg which would be all of the ones I have made (25 6mm and 25 10mm)

so have to work out the length of thread I need incl 6mm of lug.
probably just go 4mm for the 6mm thread
I'm pretty happy with how the HPU turned out, it is pretty solid, you would strip the tread before you did any damage to the urethane but then again it is only to hold it on place and squash the o-rings on the firewall/bulkhead.

Post subject:  Re: bulkhead terminals

The 10mm is gonna b 17.50 bucks and the 6mm is gonna b 15.00
The machined HPU cost the same for either size because the billet was the same. The hardware was obvioussly cheaper on the 6mm

Can I ask where these would be used?

Post subject:  Re: bulkhead terminals

If you have the battery inside the car you use these to pass power through the firewall to the engine bay.

i have a cab chassis ute and my cable goes through the cab twice so there is even more chance of dropping something on it to cause a short!
