I have been working on building a flamethrower as it would be pretty handy at work.

First I tried a firebug wand attached to a airgun and a caravan water pump to pump the fuel.

Was a little bit concerned about safety so I gave it a test run with water.

I was fairly satisfied that it wouldn't kill me so I gave it a try with bug fuel.

It worked better then I expected. Just have to sort out a fuel tank and soup it up a bit.

My 9yo thought it was pretty good and wants to take it to school to show his mates

The caravan water pump didn't like the fuel and didnt work again so I tried it with a Small facet pump and it worked great. The lower pressure stopped the fuel atomising and burning up before it landed on the ground. Was pretty happy with how it worked but wanted it to squirt further so bought a Holley blue copy pump and gave that a go.

This is awesome. Between this and the incendiary shooter you are well and truly prepared for the zombie apocalypse.

The rotary vane pump worked awesome however it only shot fire around 5 meters and I was pretty sure that the air gun was where the restriction was.
I couldn't think of anything that would work semi non dangerous so had a sickie and drove to Darwin to see what I could find in Bunnings.

Found the best thing ever. A garden hose squirtie thing. All metal, high flow, replaceable O rings and if I dropped it then it would shut off.

Decided that seeing as the fire end of it was pretty flash and due to there being a flamethrower building competition I thought I would flash up the tank a bit.

Bought a 40L fuel cell and stole the second filter out of my work car, bought a few shiny bits on eBay and came up with this

Bushfires NT is the agency I work for. :thefinger: I get paid to do what the rural fire services in other states wish they could do. In 3 or 4 weeks I am going to be lighting a fire that will be close to 1000km long.

Just need the Gayanus to dry out a bit and the glow will Prob be seen in Sydney

It isn't as much fun as it sounds. Burning is done from a shitty R44 helicopter, and I hate flying in them.
The burn gives us a fire break that goes from the kimbilies to the Stuart highway near Eliot.

Ground burning is much more fun

Add some latex, from surgical gloves, or polystyrene to the fuel, makes it thicker and stickier.

But give the Darwin Awards people a call first.

I used to add polystyrene to fuel for that very reason, when I was younger (and stupider). It's actually fascinating to see how much foam a tank of fuel will eat!

The O rings I needed to fix the hand piece turned up today, hopefully they really are fuel safe

Went out the Victoria highway west of Katherine to a spot where it wouldn't matter to much if I started a bushfire but just as I got there it pissed down so couldn't give it a tryout.

The grass is 3 meters high and it won't be long until I can set it on fire. Can't wait haha

Scored a proper shop bought flamethrower today, be interesting to see how it compares to mine. For starters mine was 12 times cheaper, has a bigger tank and doesn't need lpg to work.
