Just a dump of photos of my UNIFINISHED project (was stolen 2 days ago. rebuild pending)

Initial CAD

New toy - stick inverter

Chassis clamps

First rough assembly after bending - did not use sand, bend went wrong. Use sand, it helps a lot.

What it would look like really
Image

Notching setup. Too much vibration, kills the saw prematurely, but it works for cheap. Jig allows 45 degree cuts

Global view

Cozy bending, packed with sand. Great results.

Bender mod to bend back my enthusiasm

Last photo of it before it was stolen

Well obviously it was not finished, and am pissed off I was robbed. But I'll do it again. I have the whole CAD and concept proven by now (not track tested)
Next time I will buy steel, and not re-use discarded galvanized pipes, cause they are crap to weld (even ground) and the remaining galva is poisonous.

Also if you come around someone with these sliders (they have M marked steel and one of the sliders has no front element welded) make sure to say hi for me.

What the actual fuck? Some jerk-off stole some unfinished sliders? These are pretty unique and there aren't too many GVs around with sliders so who knows what they'd do with them.

Where were they nicked from?

nicked from my park spot down my building. Access card required to get there. We had multiple incidents over the years.
Unfinished and rough as - the photos do a good job hiding my shit welds.
I guess with a bit of work you could use them for any 4wd but it wouldn't fit well, they are 160 long, very GV specific.
So, yeah, very frustrated.

Will have to re-do it all, this time with proper steal [EDIT] Steel - aha.
If anyone can direct me to a good supplier around Brissy, I'll get going.
I need about 5 meters of 4mm thick 35mm diameter pipe. And 2 meters 5mmx40mm bar. Maybe some checker and stuff.

I ain't given up. too pissed off for that.

Well that's got to be a new low.... Grubs!

Keep an eye out for roof racks too, they might not work as sliders for other cars but can see how someone might think they would look good as sides on a flat roof rack.

no cctv. YET. maybe. years of discussions. Time to move out altogether. Get myself a shed with electrical fence, moats and some frikkin turrets.

Pete, these are steel, heavy bastards. you'd have to be mad to put that on your roof. Then again, whoever stole em is probably not the brightest.

If these work well would you consider fabricating more to sell?

Yep they are made from 40NB Australian Pipe with 3.2mm wall thickness. Mounted right you can use them as a highlift location

jtraf, coincidentally just found yours on gumtree/ebay while looking for my missing ones.
Designing and building them is half the fun, with learning the howto techniques etc. - Mine were (and will be again) 33.7NB 3.2 Gauge.
Curious to know what you use for notching though ? clearly you have some experience making these.

JD2 Notcher with Bi-Metal Holesaws for notching.

There are cheaper ones on the market that may suit your needs though.

http://jd2.com.au/notchers/tn-100.html clearly over my budget :D But I'll keep that in mind in case I need more fab done. I'll stick to my very DIY setup for now.
Am about to buy some steel with some bits pre-cut so hopefully I just have to bend, notch and weld. I want to see this thing DONE.
