Post subject:  1992 vitara bash plate( front diff protector) + other fab
I was a bit worried about the front diff on the vitara so I thought I'd make a bash plate. Wasn't really much on here about them so I copied my mates one and made my own version out of 5mm aluminium checker plate cost was $40.00 for material and 10$ for the cuts and bends. I drilled and taped holes up the front and used the existing holes I'm the gearbox crossmember I think 8mm ran a tap through it and bolted it up. Come up good I think Image
If anyone is having trouble making or buying one throw me a private message and I can help you out with measurements and bends. Also gonna make a transfer box bash plate soon so stay tuned!!!

looks good, will save destroying the engine crossmember if you get hung up on something, same with the gearbox crossmember. that's the one that usually gets hammered but at least it's removable.

personally i would have put the smooth side out but that's just me.

thanks mate!! i hope it does its job lol!! i didnt really want checker plate but it was an off cut so it was cheap

It's not checker on both sides though. Checkerplate is designed for grip. Skidplates should slide.

Yeah it's kinda just for looks the checker plate I don't really think it would stop it from sliding but thanks for your opinion

Yeah true but I don't think it will matter to much but you right was 40$$ for some 5mm stuff so it was ok

What grade was the treadplate? Sometimes they are quite soft as they are meant to be bent and shaped and and what not.

I know it was made of scrap, but if I were to make one from ally and had to pay for the metal I would pay an extra couple of bucks per KG and get some 5082 rather than 5005/5052 (or even 3003, in some cases).

Yeah I agree but I made it for the fun of it it does the job cheap enough to remake. But I'll make it out of 3 or 4 mm steel

Ok guys I had a day off work yesterday so I don't a few things... Blacked out behind my bar now it looks better pictures later. Made a reverse light coming from my spare wheel carrier and also a couple of Brackets for my 127pc sca toolbox I got for $65 just jumps straight into the air or slider around so it's gotta stop.. Will have pictures up tonight also I have installed snorkel, was a bitch to fit and I an working on a t/c bash plate aswell as a tank guard will post pictures this afternoon after I change all oils underneath the car thanks guys
