Hi guys,

I recently bought a double swag, rolls up to about 1.3/1.4m long, and about 30cm in height. I wanted to have a way of putting it on the roof if need be... It is possible to halve the swag when rolling it up, making it ~70cm wide, but tends to take up a very large amount of the interior space in the Jimny.

I bought a cargo rack a while back which came in two parts, you just had to screw them together which got me thinking. I have no idea about welding, but i went out and bought some alloy tubing the right size to extend the cargo rack. Previously it had about 1m of usable space, now it is 1.4m usuable, total length is 1.45m it runs about the full length of the Jimny. Yes i know, definitely cannot load it up fully, but atleast i can fit a swag on it, and or, recovery tracks will actually fit on top now!

Just need to go and buy a couple of longer bolts, spray paint the alloy black, add a few brace pieces to the bottom of the rack, and perhaps some sort of locktight for the bolts...

Looks pretty good. You could try nylock nuts, I think they also come as a wingnut. I'm assuming they are for the extension pieces bolts.
Cheers.

I believe there's a 24" extension for that rack - at least it looks like the rack I have, and I have the 24" extension on mine.

Finally took a few photos this afternoon. I did see some extension kits on ebay but couldn't manage to find one for this exact cargo rack at the time.. I have also added an oztrail 1.25m x 2m rear awning to the car to compliment the side awning for camping.
