My zook needed more go, so I made a manifold and added a set of 4 X 31mm CD Mikuni carbs from a 650cc suzuki Katana. I used a 1000cc suzuki air box as I respaced the carbs to be inline with inlets in the head.I didn't run pod filters because they require to much rejetting to make them work. Clean air is via a corolla airbox. The cooling system is a custom block using the 2 original head outlets via some 3/4" heater hose. The engine fired and ran well straight away, but was a little rich. A rejet down from the 110 to 102.5 netted an overall increase from 29kW(bog stock at 196,000km) to 47kW with extractors as well. The fuel consumption is only marginally lower. The carbs have been on for over 12,000 km now and have been tested on the Birdsville track with no issues. Even got the zook up Big Red on the edge of the Simpson Desert. Driveability is excellent including up steep inclines. The idle mixtures are still a bit rich, so I will sort that out soon as the motor does over fuel on long downhills, with a closed throttle. The carbs stay in tune very well and have only been balanced on initial set up. Pictures attached

Sorry Alien, The induction roar has been lost inside the aircleaner somewhere! Removing the air box(which has neat ram tubes as standard) makes some noise , but the bugger wont rev. The standard CD carbs need to suck through a fairly small opening to work properly. (learnt this from a mate who is a motorcycle mechanic) The bike airbox fits around the mastercylinder giving a "factory option" look anyway. Even the inlet elbows and tubes are standard sierra items. As a comparison we did a back to back dyno run with a 2006 Jimny. He made 44rear wheel kW against my 47r wkW. Old school still works! I am going to need a new motor soon as 6000 r/min can't be good for an old donk. Maybe a G16 plus carbs?

g16b has more webbing on the block to help stop it cracking, but if you're going to find a g16b you might as well use the EFI that comes with it.

You are right! Do I admit to being an atuo electrician at this point? I should have done a GTI conversion with all the EFI, but I have always wanted to do a quad carb set up, and I had access to all the bits from years of Jap bike ownership so the conversion was not expensive.

Do you know nandor? There is an uncanny resemblance, to him with a quad carbed sierra and jumping up a mound at what looks like morgan

This can be sorted by playing with the air bleeds in the vacuum slide as well as the slide spring rate and needle heights etc.
Response would be awesome with the quads!

I think that if you do go EFI, you will have no shortage of people with there arms up, waving cash, to get that quad carb set up !

Royce, I will post up the dyno sheets when I get back to work. All the runs are using the same dyno and the same operator. (a Mainline Dyno used for our performance and tuning course at TAFE) The original run @29kw was done for a laugh with some students. The extractors and 2" system added 6kw (35kw), the unjetted carbs made 40kw, and the final run saw 47kw after jetting. The car now makes the same power at 3400 r/min that it did at 5500 r/min stock. It will run at 110kph easily, but has best economy at about 90kph. All internals of the engine are also stock at this stage, so major carby performance upgrades where not needed.

Have you played with the timing on the dyno yet with these carbs?

i've seen good results from a quad carb setup on a GTi 1.3L engine, that would make a screamer in a sierra.

hey mate how much for one of these in a 'plug and play situation'?
what did you have to do with all the old vacume lines?

The next step up from this would be bike quad throttle bodies. I had a set i was gonna use abut got a case of CBF. The corola carby was working good enough for me.
The quads i got had 2 injectors in each throat. One for low end and another that kicked in at higher revs. That would have been wicked in a Sierra.

The carbs are still working fine, really hassle free. included are the dyno run overlays.

Now that's a nice comprehensive dyno analysis! Power and thus torque are increased throughout the whole rev range with the carbs and exhaust. Would be very practical for offroad use!
Modman: Did you also play with the timing on your dyno runs to optimize it?
