Hey zookers,

I recently bought some Handy Storage shelving, and some drawers and had fun wacking them together with a rubber mallet. I think it's an awsome buy for the garage (or industrial bedroom), and then it hit me, the drawer would be a good match for my Jimny.

For whatever reason I had cooled off on the idea as I wanted to keep my back seats and do a flatback camper mod. Well I'm keen again, as reading jimny_timmy thread on his 'jimny drawer' mod made me think it was worth a bit more investigating my build idea.

Today however I did a bit more measuring, and short of putting the drawer in the back of my zook, it looks like I'm out by less than 5cm length to fit the drawer and keep the back seats. So may be able to squeeze it in somehow and keep the seat backs.

For those who go seatless, it looks to be an awsome cheap ($55 + wood carpet etc) way to fit a drawer.

Drawer measures in at 410mm Deep (430mm including handle), 835mm wide (910mm including mounting brackets for shelving frame), 150mm high (170mm including handle - this would sit flush with a wooden lid/surround for the drawer).

I will have to see if I can increase the space behind the seat backs by removing the plastic on the back door, and possibly shaving down the seats a bit.

I'd cut the draw's before you go "shaving" a seat.....

Haha, yeah tnx. I agree, just measured up with the drawer and it's definantly a case of remove seats or cut up the drawer. Cool thing is if u removed back seats u could have 2 drawers, and access the internal 1 with the front seats down, and squeeze some 6x9's into the front panel. But I think modifying the length of the drawer wouldnt be too tough with the right tools.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but the problem is the first word in your topic "BUNNINGS" they are crap, the runners are way under size (and quality) for the drawer size, if the drawers were used in a garage (or your kinky industrial bedroom with hoist 8O ) they would be marginal at best but put them in a moving vehicle and they will self destruct in weeks not months, the problem is not only the crap runner it is also the size of the drawer, if the drawer was only 200mm wide it would last longer, and with a larger drawer you put more weight in it, you you are addicted to hot chocolate and want to store your marshmallows in it, go for it, it will still fall apart under its own weight but it will last a lot longer than if it had tools, parts and recovery gear in it.

Cool, tnx for the input. Yeah, it was a link simply if others were interested, as I hadnt noticed it discussed in the many threads on the topic of jim storage. It does come down to the application for sure, I still havnt written off the idea, as im after an easy way to mod the bootspace. Also I dont have experience with four-by drawers etc, but know the professional ones are built super strong. To me this was just another cheap alternative to banging one together with ply.

Its not too hard. I reckon the best piece of advice would be to carpet the drawers and think ahead on how you are going to do this. Don't for example try to carpet the edges of the wood or metal separately; bend the carpet around the edge from the same piece of larger carpet that you line the top/front/sides with.

Dude you need more than that in your office, try a grenade, pull the pin and look the other way. LOL :blink:
