Maybe the lock button thing has been turned into the "handle"? |

nice work.. yeh what appears to be the door lock is the actuator for the latch... thats how i'll be setting mine up, im thinking of having mine nearly flush with the top of the door though so i cant accidentally lean on it... then its a case of pushing the button in to open the door. |

What are you doing for mirrors? |

stock mirrors can be re-attached to the bit above the hinge (thats how i'll do mine) |

there are some mirrors on ebay......yet to order. The push button skull thing opens the door and cause its right back there and needs a little pressure to activate it, no chance of accidental opening. |

for a flush push button release get 2 pieces of pipe (1 about the size of your finger) and 1 fits in side the other, weld a cap on the small 1 then attach the bar in the desired position.. its a little hard to explain i have seen it and i will do it to mine (1 day) i seen it on a custom fe wagon a few years back didnt get a pic i can draw it but not sure how 2 put it up here.. |

It's basically inside the door frame (or where it was) Here are mine. I cut them slightly differently to most, It was a bit more work though messing around getting the latch right... I butchered the latch alot, still had to put an ever so slight rise in the door at the back, I also cut the front down as I think it matches the lines of the bonnet and looks more factory/finished Mirrors are relocated stock units, the cut angle is the same as the bracket for the mirrors and the same angle the dash is on. The photo's here have ZERO bog in the doors.

Thanks. Not handy, can take some if you really need. I basically cut as much off it as possible but still keeping the three bolts... You can probably take more as there is heaps less weight with no glass/frame/handles, but I'm a little paranoid like that. Removed all excess from the latch, and the old section from the outer handle gets turned into the push button. I cut the old locking rod down, welded the connector from the outside handle onto it and was away. |

haha yeah i want mine pretty gutted so i can put stuff in the doors... water/snacks etc =) cos mine are being engineered though i'll most likely need to have the door release on the top so it can be opened from inside or out easily. |

Once the windows are out they are damn easy to gut like the thread starters. Spend some time on the yank sites, they love this shit |

been looking around and i reckon if i can score some, i'll use airplane lap belts for the door straps.... bolt the latch/flippy part into the kick panel, then attach the plug end and a length of seatbelt to the door using the stock mounting hardware, so to take the door straps off i just need to pull the lever to unbuckle it =) sitll trying to find my ideal solution for the door handle, which is similar to a jeep paddle handle:
except mounting that on the top of the door - so when you open the paddle it pushes the rod down on the stock latch mechanism. Cant find anything that does that though =( |

fairly sure any door handle designed for a vertical plane would have the lever working sideways not up and down, do you have to mount the handle on top? You could mount mxt5 handles inside and out they would easily fit in that top lip on the inside |

What about in a comp where a window net would restrict access from the outside? |
|
| Author: | alien [ Sat Nov 26, 2011 4:02 am ] |
| Post subject: | Re: Half Doors |
window nets have big enough holes that you'd be able to pull the lever still... plus you'd position the window net on the inside of the cab anyway, so anyone outside would find it easier to open than those inside. |

hey my seatbelts arrived today... got the front drivers side door all rigged up and its brilliant! so now i've got easy to remove doors... i'll take pics while i fit the passengers side in case anyone else wants to do the same. word of warning - you do need to butcher your original door strap metal bitty thing as a retainer plate for the seatbelt buckle. |

sorry - its most likely not legal to not have a door handle on the outside... i figure i can get away with it being on top as its accessible both sides that way. |
