for the clutch cable, are you using the carby version now that has the nuts holding it to the bracket? this is the better setup as it has less give

Yeah, I am. I could have changed the entire cable over, but after looking at both setups, I figured the carby cable (as you've stated) was the better engineered one, and has a better adjustment setup. That, and I only discovered the difference after the engine was in - easier to change the bracket....
