I've be giving my folks shit for the last few years about the state of the shit kitchen. It was built in the 70's and is farked to put it nicely :D
A couple of weeks ago, just before he went to china, my old man gave the go ahead to reno the kitchen!!
The cabinet maker was first called. He came along and along with input from me and the old lady a plan was organised. The old man left for china, leaving mum with all the decisions to make :D
The kitchen has been stripped down and cleared out.
The study has been taken back to nothing and the plaster came thru yesterday to fill some holes.
The laundry is emptied and ready to strip down.
I'll get pictures up tomorrow before I start painting and stripping out more.

This one is coming in at 22,000 for the cabnetry, thats a full kitchen, laundry with laundry sink and over head cupboards, and a study which include a massive L shaped desk with 2 sets of drawers and one wall worth of shelving. The kitchen is vinyle wrap doors, with ceasar stone bench tops. The rest of the cabnets are laminex. The kitchen is getting a new floor of secret nails, end matched spotted gum with a urethan semi gloss finish :D Pics have been taken today will be loaded up soon :D
The study is getting a paint job and new cabnetry. the laundry has timber lining boards atm (so 70's :p), which is getting stripped and plastered up. The kitchen is getting totally stripped out, floors ripped up, restumping, straighting and leveling floors and then the new strip flooring installed. There is an arch way into the lounge room thats getting moved to the right 300mm with a mofo 240x45 F17 beam getting installed above to take some roof props. Then when the archway is moved right 300mm the whole opening to the lounge room will be opened up creating an awsome open space :D

My rents did a hole house renovation including two completely new varandas. Our hole kitchen is made out of Silky oak. It's crazy how it goes from a old crappy kitchen to a new one.

Update time!!
Study is finished. Friday it got 3 coats of paint and the second coat of enamel on the woodwork. Came up smick as.

Getting rid of the pink, YAY for Dulux Prepcoat :D

The colour going on the walls and roof is Cargo White, looks kinda funky against the vivid white prepcoat, but came up smick as.

:oops: I forgot to get finished photos. I started at 8am and finished the last coat of enamel on the woodwork at 7pm, with a nice cold beer to help finish the painting! (I'll get pics or a vid of the finished room tomorrow!)

Yesterday was heaps of fun. Had a chippy mate and the other 3rd year apprentice giving me a hand. Gooooooooood bye kitchen and heeeeellllooo frame!

One of the minor problems that I've come across. The extension my old man put in 25years ago, the floor joists run the wrong way for my strip flooring.

Easy enough to fix, will just have to put chipboard yellow tounge down before putting the floorboards over the top.

When in doubt, use a hammer. If still in doubt, hit it with the SLEDGEHAMMER!!!!

And what a kitchen looks like after its been removed. Almost filled the 6 meter bin, bloody glad I didn't get a smaller bin :D

All the stumps need to be replaced. Pain in the arse. 26 stumps to replace and only 1 day to do them :p Thats tomorrows job along with start to straighten and relevel the floor. Order all the timber this week and start to rebuild next weekend :D

Update time. Last week during the week a few bits and pieces fell off as I cleaned up. As the plaster came off the wall to the lounge room, found that there was no support under the props holding up the roof.
Oh fuck, the roof is about to fall down, the roof was held up with plaster :lol:

Them there studs need some noggings at half-height (or 1350mm max vertical centres). The noggings strengthen the studs significantly in compression as they preven the studs buckling out sideways. If you don't have them in then roof loads on that lintel are likely to cause long-term deflection and bowing of the studs which could cause cracking of your new plasterboard or worse.

Also looks like you need another joist bearer in the concrete slab area, alongside the heating duct. No idea what timber grade or size you've used but it looks like about 90x35 at 450c/c. In MGP10 that has maximum span 1400mm (or 2100mm if they're at 300c/c) for joists that are continuous over two or more spans.

Cheers Moph! Its actually 90x45 F17 hardwood (its all that I ever use as bearers and joists internally) and the span of f17 is 1.8. I have under spanned it at 1600, and also I know that wall needs nogging, its a work in progress. Needed to get the beam up pronto so I could remove the acro props and start leveling the floor. Once the spotted gum flooring goes down next weekend, the walls will finish being nogged (2 rows of noggings) finished being straightened and then plastered :D Taken most of the evenings off this week, so back into it next weekend!

and new regulations require 400mm clearance underneath the bearer down to natural ground..... start digging :wink:

BCA requires 400mm clearance under bearers only if access for termite inspection is required. If you have alternative termite treatment (eg chemical reticulation) then you can reduce to 150mm clearance.

Just for the sake of being argumentative :P :)

To get really picky now... the BCA has been superseeded by the National Construction Code 2011.... which is exactly the same book but with a different name :lol:

To get really, really picky the BCA 2011 is actually still the correct title for the Building Code of Australia. It hasn't been superceded by the NCC ... it's been incorporated into it.

The title on the front cover of Volume Two for example says:

National Construction Code Series
Volume Two
Building Code of Australia 2011
Class 1 and Class 10 Buildings

So it's now incorrect to say 'BCA Volume Two' as we used to. It's now 'NCC Volume Two' which is the 'BCA for Class 1 and Class 10 Buildings'.

I don't care what its called!! I build shit over the top anyway (unless its rear bars! :oops: )

ANYWAY!!!! The study was installed today. The cabinet maker has done an amazing job!! I'll let the pictures do the talking :D
(btw, its bloody awsome to see something for all my hard work finally :lol: )

The spotted gum flooring goes down on Saturday, then the plaster gets hung next week and the plasterer comes in and stops it up mid next week, it gets painted, the laundry cupboards go in (they are ready to go now) then in a week or 2 the kitchen goes in!!
Very exciting!!
The floors will be left for 4 weeks to settle in then on the 8th of November the floor sander comes in and will sand and put 3 coats of 2pac on it and this PARTY time!!
