Well...driving my Suburban...I have the luxury of captains chairs which incorporate a fold down arm rest.
My 89 Vitara doesn't have any such luxury....so I installed one.
Bought a 2000+ (I think) VW centre console and fitted it!

Image

The original console...which has the storage pocket in the back...with a broken lid.

Image

Image

Drilled the original 'single' mounting screw hole out and added another...used 'Nutserts'.

Image

Manufactured a new bracket. (Welded a piece of 5mm x 50mm flat to the original bracket).

Image

Image

Cut the bottom out of the console storage compartment and went crazy reinforcing with the hot glue gun.

Image

Installed the base of the console but then realized the angle of the tube was wrong so needed to cut it off and re-weld it at the correct 'centred' angle.

Image

Image

Made a plate and 'insert' tube to slide into the base bracket.

Image

Inserted the new console and locked it in place with the graub screw/nut I welded to the bracket.

Image

Image

Cut a hole in the original flap.

Image

Voila!

Image

Can be angled to wherever it's most comfortable.

Off the top of my head....about 120mm.
Where it fits into the console is 105mm from memory.
