I'm going to S/A next weekend and seeing my swag needs a new mattress, I decided that instead of taking my swag, fab up a bed frame for my weekend away
I started out with a hard rubbish futon bed, that I cut up with my spanking new cordless grinder
Cut it down to 1400mm so that it fits in the canopy and doesn't poke into the cabin and interfere with gear changes and handbrake. I had some square tube floating around that i cut up for the supports. A few bits of flat that I bent up to support the edge pieces. Clips into the bolts that hold the canopy down.
Tomorrow I will get a sheet of ply to cover the bars and extend over the fridge in the passenger seat so my feet have support while i sleep And I will get some foam for a mattress and post up some pics of the finished product. Dave |

A new swag mattress would've easier. I saw them in a Clark rubber catologue yesterday, They're only about $50 But, I'll give you points for effort |

Its cost me the grand total of $3 so far and thats just for a grinder cutting disk, so i think that i'm ahead on the $50 mattress from clark rubber edit: With the bonus that when its not being used as a bed, I can use it daily to store more tools and shit

Got the 12mm chipboard from bunnings this morning and a mattress from clark rubber. Add a few screws, hinges and bolts and i'll let the pics say the rest
The view from the back
View from the front
With the mattress
Mattress folds up for fridge access and driving
And very little interferance with my side vision from the drivers seat!
Just need to pull it out and give it a coat or 2 or 3 of house paint to seal it up and its all ready to go! Costing Metal frame : free 12mm chipboard 1200 x 2400 : $20 Screws, bolts and hinges : $6 Mattress : $80 I'm stoked for just over $100 get a bed for camping and also a shelf I can use daily going to work Dave |

Nice work, if you ever want a double, just make it fold to the other side for travelling. I like this! As i can do it for mine if needed |
