Hi guys,
ive done some searching and couldnt find...
has anyone tried making a removable hardtop to suit a widetrack softtop using the roof of a hardtop?? i am keen to fabricate up a hardtop and dont know where to start as i couldnt find an aftermarket one and am on a budget toyed with the idea of playing with fibreglass and mould making but got put out by the idea of fucking it up and wasting all the supplies and money with little option to fix it unlike steel....
just an idea for now but am keen to give a try ??? any opinions?? has anyone built anything like this?? pics of existing removable hardtops and how they are fastened would be appreciated also what sorta cost would i be looking at paying for a hard top ready for scrapping?? or just the rear and roof cab section??

also thinking of getting lets say an old hilux canopy and cutting it down and fixing it back together, and getting new windows cut for it??
so desperate for a cheap alternative!!
thanks for the advice nandor i looked through your tornau build and its way complicated?? i think i shall have to save big dollars..... as all my mates have cruisers and hilux' and are planning a few touring trips, therefore me in my little zook thinks i need a new roof, (so does the girlfriend) so its in the cards along with a long range tank and snorkel!
its only till you start thinking of things to spend money on you realise how poor you actually are

I made a fibreglass over ply roof for the cab, turned out alright put marine carpet on the inside. No more flapping noises from the canopy and cost about a 100 bucks

was thinking about how good it was to have a hard roof when i rolled and i had an idea. if you cut the top off a tintop (i no never chop a tintop) just the frunt about half way down the window and only as far back as youll need to get to the bow (of the soft top) then you could chop the bottem off the fold down window then weld it all together in a nice way (not the zook getto fab way) you could have a tintop that you can bolt on a soft top ??
anyone no what im getting at or is that just dribell

The latest NZ 4X4 Action mag features and article on how Suzuki NZ got Steve Whitton to remove the Indian ragtop and fab up a fibreglass roof and bulkhead. Not sure if they are available separately and there's a 15 week wait for a farm only Maruti. Hopefully the scan I made comes out.

Gotta ask, =How the heck are you meant to see? I'm looking at putting a canopy on my vitara cause the soft top has had it and I cant see out the side windows of the soft top. Makes it very difficult/dangerous when road driving cause I cant see whats beside me thats out of view of my side mirrors. Is this legal?
