I'm also chasing after a rear glass section for a flexiglass canopy. Bought on without a rear door glass to put on my trailer and was going to replace it with a timber/ply one, but if someone knows where to get the replacement glass ones, that would be awsome! |

I needed a piece of glass for mine. Looked everywere. I ended up finding a place that made custom auto glass. The hardest thing was finding someone who would make it out of 3mm and be able to toughen it. |

I was hoping to find an old canopy with a rear glass that I could cut down to fit my rear door frame. |

It's probably going to be tempered glass and therefore cannot be cut down, it will shatter |

Would you consider an alternative to glass ? When i had my Hard Top 1L Sierra, someone smashed one of my side windows... 2nd hand spares back then just werent that common back in the 80's... so i got a bit of Perspex made up... you wouldnt have known it wasnt glass until you looked closely, and it never faded or went smokey, in the years that i owned it... |

Anything other than glass with the 'AS' etched into it is possibly illegal... not that it matters much in the back of a sierra but emergancy services cant get through it as easily and if it does get an impact good enough to shatter it ends up pretty nasty. |

Pretty sure that only applies to doors and windscreen... i was in Fire and Rescue for a while, if they have any difficulty getting to people, they just cut the whole roof... and their cutting saw would have no trouble getting thru it... personally, i would prefer high impact perspex over glass any day... |

Seen what happens to it when it breaks? I would not like to be a back seat passenger coping a long sharp shard of that shit in an accident! Thats why they use tempered glass. It granulates on impact. Much safer. |

Yes i have seen what happens to it, but it takes a hell of alot of bending or twisting to actually break... i had a friend who had a bad t-bone car accident last year, its a year later, and they are still picking out bits of that granulated glass... safer is a relative term, auto glass codes havnt changed much in a quite a few years... But anyway, this is for a canopy/removeable hardtop, its gonna be flexing a fair bit, it comes down to personal choice, and how much one has to spend... |

Hi Salih, I sprayed the daughters canopy with the cheap paint from SCA. I rubbed the surface back and then bought an etch primer for fibre-glass, followed by 2 coats of the Export grey primer from SCA and then about 4 coats of Export Satin Black from SCA. I like satin black as it gives a sheen and not the gloss shine. My daughter is happy with it, and if it looks like needing a new coat, it will be cheap to respray. I am not a spray painter, so I have to rely on spray packs as I don't have the finances for a professional to do it for me. Hope that this helps, regards John T. |

Some pressure packs can leech in and cause issues with getting someone to do it later. cant give firm advice but worth looking into further before creating more possible costs for yourself |
