I wanted some way to secure stuff in my car, but really didn't want to go to the effort of building draws, plus I needed to keep the weight down. So I went for a simple shelf...
I used:
-1 piece of 19mm yellow tongue flooring board. This stuff has a wax coating on one side and the edges for waterproofing. $20
-3 meter length of 3mm/25mm gal angle. $20
-carpet, depends on what you want, anywhere from $10 - $50
-bolts/screws
I used a length of angle down either side, with 3 8mm bolts into the body. Cut the wood to size and dropped it in. Using 2 6mm flat screws and nuts to hold the wood to the angle on either side.
Then cut some carpet to size, glued it down. Leaving an inch down either side unglued, so i can undo the screws if need be. Then i cut the remaining angle to fit along the front edge, fixed to the wood with some wood screws.
Then with the canvas on it looks stock. With the back door locked its pretty secure in there now, and the wood helps lift the canvas and stop water pooling in it. I have another bit of carpet that can go on top of the canvas if i need to carry anything up there.
