Maybe think about hinging the side panels so you can store stuff over the wheel arches? That's what I did on my Sierra and it is quite amazing how much stuff fits down there.

That's not a bad idea actually! Although I usually put pillows there to stop things banging into the windows... I'll be putting the ally angle around the edges too! Already made a few small chips from pulling the esky in and out lol
