finanly kick off making my trac bar.

some 40NB pipe to some 25NB pipe. this will be the crossmemeber end.
tiged it, havent used the tig in a while and have only welded 32NB pipe so was a bit rusty on the tigher 25NB but it will be fine for the application.
drilled and taped a 1/8th BSP for a grease nipples. only used 1/8 as i alread had a tap for it







this, i am hoping will be what i use at the crossmemeber end. just some 100x5mm flat bar welded together to make an angle.shouldnt have fucked aroun with the settin on the mig thats why it looks like shit in the middle and 2 ends. its going to sit ontop of the crossmember hopfully get a few bolts in there to hold it down. and then i am planing to have 2 plates coming down off it (at the tcase side) where the first peice will be mounted. its not going to be in the center of the crossmemeber so hopfully it workes out.
because its a slip and twist i dont think there will be much stress place on as to a shackel setup?





axel mounts, just some 5mm plate. used the spazzma to get the rough cut then put the grinder to make it look good.
EDIT-haha looks like i i forgot the grind down the bottom left corner on one of them i fucked up. was plaing on using some 32NB as the main body of the trac bar. but the pipe i am using for the bushes to go into is 35OD. 32nb pipe has an od of 42mm i think. fuck fuck should i just leave it how it is or use bigger bushes?i dont hink it will matter much would it?

she is almost finished! 95% done. just got to notch out the lower bar of the trac bar. think i may have fucked it up ran out of light and couldnt cheak it on the car. probably going to have to notch it witht he cordless drill.
i tryed it out, put it low 1st, foot on the brake, my dad recons it got 1/2 inch of wrap! tryed it without and he recons 2 inches!!!

well it all done and mounted and i can say you can feel the different it makes, car feel alot more stiffer in 1st and 2nd (in a good way)

i am sort of happy with the end results. i fucked the notch up on the bottom peice and had a awesum 10mm gap each side, so i had to fill it in with the mig. but other then that it came out ok. other then trying to weld the axel that was a pain in the ass but came out alright for the position i was in

did you change you diff oil after welding the housing? you said you had to do tons of filling so just wondering if you did that then would have been lots of heat in the diff.
And any oil on the inside (right where you welded) would now be chunks of carbon which can be abrasive to bearings.

Couple of bucks for new oil would be a good start.

no no the lower bar of the trac bar i had to fill. diff was fine to weld onto. i made sure i didnt put too much heat into it

no havent had any problems so far. ive flex it eveyway posible and the diff moves bugger all so i cant see any problems. i did mount the trac bar as close to center as i could.

real test will be when io fianly pull some leafs out of the rear end to soften it up

How has the brace on the chassie bracket healed up I would be worryed that it not strong enough

I was thinking the same thing. as the force going through the trac bar is going to try to twist the crossmember upwards. Unless there is extra bracing up there that we can't see.

I looked at using that crossmember for mounting a trac bar too, and came to the same conclusion. It's only about 2mm material. IF you boxed in the bottom of the crossmember that would help, but there is still a LOT of force being put into it by that track bar.

yer i was worryed about that too. but its been fine so far i am keeeping an eye on it so if anything happneds ill strengthen it. but i think it will be ok

There is a lot of force but it should be a torque around the diff, how long is the bar, I know a metre breaker bar can input a huge amount of torque.

update, body mounts ect where the trac bar mounts are all fine so far and ive been drivng its fairly hard

im going ot be modifying the sliders so they extend out past the body. just adding some wings onto it

Amps? What size filler did u use?

yup tig. I had the welder set on 85amps but had a fingar tig cotrol and prob used around 70. 1.6mm gap,root run was 1.6mm er7os-2 and cap was 2.4 er7os-6,was welded in the 2g position i find it easyer. Will get pics of the root run today still got 2more welds to do.
