A 1mm hose would be enough to flow the volume of air required, it not much and air is pretty easy to flow.
Most people run larger hose and just push it over the nipple coming out of the gearbox etc because its easy, what they forget is the breather holes on those nipples are on the sides and when you clamp hose on you block off those holes.

Whilst rebuilding I looked at doing up diff breathers etc for my SWB Vitara.
But it seems either it came standard with extended breathers or someone already installed.
The rear breather runs all the way up behind the left rear tail light and the front goes into the bottom of the charcoal canister for the pollution control.
Or am I seeing this wrong?

Nice job with the breathers.
My SJ50 has breathers with a clear tube and a hose clip holding it onto the diffs breather tube. It is run along under the body and tucked up out of the way and under the body. Once at the fire wall I went up and around the master cylinder and the end was cable tied back to the supplying tube as it made an "n" shape so if it gets wet the water cannot go down the tube and it can still breath out and in, no one way valves or filters needed.
Thanks Andy
