Not tested out yet. I think it may need some stiffening through the middle, but should be ok for light items. Total cost $64.

trying to get photos to wrk.

Didn't' realise there was only 6 wingnuts in the packet. Will need to get some more.

I had a mate make one out of the same security screens, however bent the edges to a 80mm lip 45 degree cut the edges and then put the edging on and weld it shut - like a proper basket.

Two lateral stringers were run down the rough the guts for added stability and strengthening for the U shackles.

Form follows function Armsup

The alloy roof rack I made for my GV was similar but I used uncoated security mesh and welded it into a 25mm tube frame. The idea was to keep as low profile as possible but I found the mesh to be incredibly draggy.

YMMV.

This will only be installed on an as required basis, removed all other times.

I'm thinking some very small section alloy SHS, riveted on from underneath to stiffen it up in the middle.

I moved the mounting position forward as there is a slight curve on the rails, this partially pretensions the tray up. Also fitted a stiffening bar for $5.95. Total cost now a whopping $70.
