Hi guys, just thought I'd share my first attempt at a solid roof rack as I couldn't fathom spending >$1000 on a frontrunner or similar. BOM came in under $100 (incl. welding rods, paint, grinding wheels, steel). You could shave a decent percentage by not shopping for sundries at Bunnings. The steel was literally half the price at Robot Building Supplies but the guy laughed when I turned up to load 2x 6m lengths atop the Jimny (illegal apparently)...

The Jimny racks that mount to the roof directly are the business. Have seen so many Jimnys crack the factory rails.

I approve of the choice of SHS aswell.

You want to take a closer look? There's no SHS there...

The last "home made-ish" roof rack I saw, was on a Jimny driving around West Leederville.

Yours is much more betterer Armsup Armsup

The one I saw, had a CHEP pallet tied [not very well] onto the roof. 8O

Jimny's owner even fronted me thinking I was taking pics of his rig!

I wish I had taken photo's - but at the time I was fighting with the iphone's screen trying to read a dodgy text from the boss, without having my glasses with me.
