Hi all,
I am in need of a CNC lathe. I had one lined up but it was too small and future improvements would be limited.
Now........I know nothing about building a CNC lathe but one thing I have done is a heap of is research. I have some close friends who are in the machining game and they have offered thier advice. So I bit the bullet!
Hare and Forbes are doing a special on these lathes.
https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/Produ ... ode=L1542Z
They have toasted motors. But for what I need it is a great starting point. I would buy this lathe for 990............but aftre recieving it there is no way I would have paid full retail........it is Chinese quality after all.
Here it is after a de-grease.
I have ordered ball screws, stepper motors etc for the main conversion. It will be running a Hitachi VFD controlled by Mach3 software via a pc. The only thing this does not have to the one I had lined up is a turret tool post........but I have allready designed one of these for future use.
The main aim of this is to keep it neat, tidy and looking like a proper factory CNC.
Once again, I know nothing about this stuff but it won't stop me.

Jump into a few tafe machinig classes at night, the teachers wont mind and youll learn alot! Not a bad little lathe for the price, good enough for little home jobs.
But dont try and do anything with any really tight tolerances on it, i wouldnt trust it to be honest.
shakes - Im a machinist by trade, so hopefully for my sake your wrong

No worries. A mate of mine did a small lathe like that a few years ago but was disappointed with the performance. He was stuck will lots of small cuts and a reasonably low feed rate. He was used to dealing with industrial machines.
Mine is a 3 tonne Mazak that had no electronics. I used big stuff and it works just like a bought one.
