Wanted to get some rear draws in the back of my lwb for camping, got sick of all my gear bouncing around

I looked at a few draw slides and they all seemed of poor quality and looked like they would rattle. and cost a fair bit too.

I got some sheet metal 1.2mm mill thick bent up with some end caps folded too. they measured 920mm long x 380mm wide x 240 deep. i could only go this long because of my gas tank

I then welded up a frame out of box 20mm x 50mm to fit in betwwen wheel arch. I ordered a heap of roller blade bearings of ebay from the states i think they where under $30 all up including postage. which i used with box steel as sliders.

This is a picture of the slides and the bearings

Then attached the box steel runners to the draws

Made up some floor mounts and attached in car. I used 12 bearings for each draw 4 on each runner then 2 each side on the draw to keep in running in and out straight.

I picture of one draw sliding out. I held my own wait in one draw i weigh 90kg's they didn't even move. so far seem to run really tight and don't rattle. Just have to get some wood to cover top then carpet. These draws took a while to think how to get them to operate smoothly.

Also need to work out a lock set up and some handles. After making these i can see why draws cost so much. took alot of hours to get them to this stage. they weigh about 35kg's which is a bit of weight, but i think by having draws will keep everything i have in the back nice and low and it can roll around.

Looks awesome!! Nice work. Have you done anything to stop them from sliding all the way out?

Great job, looks very strong ! 8O

But i have to wonder about the weight, at 35kgs its not light... 20mm x 50mm steel is a bit of overkill...
Not putting this down in any way, just thinking out loud...

our kitchens are set up similar in the caravans i make all we do is have a we have a laser cut rectangle with a rectangular hole cut just big enough that the bearing sits in side it and cant move. so you roll the kitchen till it stops and pick it up a whisker then pull a bit and put back down.

Looks great mate! Hmmmm... an extra 35kg of weight over the rear would probably help a little light-arsed sierra get some more flex in the rear.... ;)
