I've used big drill bits, and also ground off the spot welds with a grinder, both with varying success. I have to get remove the sill brackets (full of rust) and flares (virtual lift) at some stage, so I thought i'd get myself a spot weld drill bit. I justordered eBay, and got another 3 bits for it while i was there. The bits are double ended, so it's like having 8 bits all up. Cost me under $30.

I've done that too, this thing is supposed to let you cut just th top layer of metal. I'll let you know how it goes though!

you can just grind the spot welds down, when you've ground far enough it breaks the join and you don't have a hole left in the panel to fill.

very technological there Damo.

If your sills are rusty right through then fair enough, but i used a grinder to remove my sill brackets, very carefully, so then i did not have any drill holes through the panels, so i didn't have to repair the drill holes.

:x :x :x

I was looking one of these everywhere on the weekend. Ended up just using the angle grinder, was easier than I thought.

Would still like this for the flares. Got a link to the seller Damo??

I take it the centre pin is sprung and pushes up inside the bit. Just like a broach. I have seen normal twist drill bits machined / ground down to form a similar idea, like a timber spade bit also.

My mate got some of them from his snapon man when we removed the front clip from his gq, they worked great. Then we realised you can just grind blunt or broken drill bits the same way as the snapon ones n they work just as well without the $30 each price tag
ill try find a pic of the snapon ones

you can also use a dowel drill, (used for timber dowel joints). there almost flat on the end with a littli spike in the centre, i think that is what the snapon ones are like to.

Very funny.

I think mine will not get used for a while. A lot of other things on the list to do before the virtual lift and that is not required till I get some 31/32's. But at least I'll have em there ready to go.
