| Team Casper - Tough Tracks 08 |
Well, what can Jason and I say about this weekend? ? ? ? ? ?
Firsty we would like to say a big THANK YOU to all that came along to support "Team Casper"
Now lets see if I can remember them all.
Greg, Natalie, Lincoln and Sophie. (thank you soooooo much for the "Team Casper" outfits the kids had on )
Mike, Demi and Nick.
Paul.
Westie and (edited)a. (thanks for following us all the way there and back )
Shazza and Renee (they HAD TO BE THERE )
All the guys from ECB (that's East Coast Bullbars.)
Tony and his mates.
Ok now for the good and bad bits.
Track 1. Sat
We drew car 12 from a field of 16 car so we thought that was a good start as we could watch some of them go thought and check some lines.
The track was a very rocky and wet creek bed (as they always are) with the start being a steep down hill going into a sharp left turn to a large rock in the way of the left front wheel. We past that managed to get ourselves to the 600 point mark (with an already smashed in front pass corner) where we slide off the rocky step up and got stuck between a rock and a tree. All over red rover after 3 attempts. We had to get towed out as even with both lockers on (no you are not allowed to use lockers in this event) we could not get out. We both were not real happy with this and at the end of this track we were in 12th position.
Track 2 Sunday morning. (after watching the support crew on Sat night drink up big) (We had to be 0)
This track was a another rocky twisty tight track with a LARGE exit (that only 3 of the 16 cars drove)
As we were 12th after track 1 we were 12 on track for this and also track 3. Our turn finally arrived after about 3 hours. We again got the 600 point mark and got a little stuck but with a little brake playing and the right foot going we managed to get good old Casper over and onto the 700 mark. Once past that the 800 mark was the next hard spot let alone the 900 (BIG STEP UP). After a little forward and back (and banging and griding) we managed to get thought the 800 mark to what I thought was going the be about the end of our run as I did not think we would get over this step. The only other 2 that had got over were the 2 only Jeeps in our class. Funny about that as they have rather GOOD LSD's in the arse end. Anyway back to Casper. We approached the LARGE STEP UP, had 1 go and no go. (Did I mention that it had been raining and the rocks were like ice and VERY slippery) Jason got me to get out of Casper and help him rock stack for our 1 of 30 sec rock stacking. Attempt 2 was not too bad however Jason moved me into another position but before I had my 2nd attempt he got me out of the car to help him move a log into a better position, so we had no more rock staking left. Off Casper went for attempt 2. Got about 1/2 way up, kicked all the rocks out and the log but no good. I wanted to call it as I did not see a way of getting up without stacking. The crowd went,"NOOOOOOOOOOOO ONE MOREEEEEEE GOOOOOOOO." Jason said about the same thing, so I thought, what the heck lets gooooooo. He lined me up, I put Casper into 2nd gear AGAIN and just move Casper to the start of the step up and JUST NAILED IT WITH ALL SHE HAD. Bloody hell I'm up, Holly Sh it, I (we) did it. And without a sec thought I was out past the 1000 point mark and home free. Man Ooooo Man what a great feeling as the crowd went wild. (they really did) We showed them Jeep boys a thing or 2 let me tell you.
So guess what. We came 2nd on that track as we had less penalty points as them Jeep drivers. So CASPER had a trophy.
Track 3.
This looked an easy track as it was again rocky but look Zook friendly (noooooooooo it was not)
Anyway we again waited for our turn and away we went. By this time we had quite a following with the crowd as we were the underdogs cause we had what we thought the best looking car there and we had stuck it up them jeeps. From what I was told the crowd was right behind 'TEAM CASPER"
We approached the 500 point mark with only 1 cone hit and no reverses. Got a little hung up at the 600 mark but managed to get around that. Passing the 700, 800 and into the 900 area was a walk in the park for the little zook but the exit was rather steep with th tight right hand turn. I got around the 900 mark and gave Casper all she had hitting about 6000 rpms in 2nd gear.
Guess what ? ? ? ?
We sharked 3rd on this track so another trophy for TEAM CASPER"
I am not sure where we came overall (about a week away) but I think we came 4th outright which gets us to about 6th overall with 1 round to go.
Again thank you sooooooo much to all that came out. Jason and I reallllllly appreciate it.
Bruce
