Suzuki are recalling 1998-2000 SQ625s and will be buying back/scrapping the effected cars instead of fixing them. Details here. https://www.suzuki.com.au/airbag_investigationhttps://www.accc.gov.au/media-release/c ... ety-recallhttps://www.productsafety.gov.au/recall ... y1998-1999Backpackers are stuffed because Mitsubishi are buying back NL Pajeros for the same airbag problem. A fella at work just had a recall for the same airbag on his Audi TT. He drove up to Perth (300kms) they inspected it and said the car can't be driven anymore, they gave him the option of taking $3900 right now (one time offer) or keeping the car for no money but the rego will be canceled and it will be unregisterable. Naturally he was well pissed off and had to get an uber home (again 300kms).

I know of someone else took their pajero in was a faulty one but the place wasn't exzacley sure on the process on what to do so after he kicked up a fuss they let him drive home but they will contact him soon. Pretty sure he is stripping all his good bits off it now.

Well I just caught a promo for A current affair tomorrow night , looks like christover1 has been caught up in the buy back. I think I recall him buying a pajero. Sad reality is that vintage pajero is only worth $3000 if your lucky.

Poor bugger was shattered and stressed out about it all at first but is now excited about building up another older none airbag pajero.

It is only limited VINs that are affected for GVs. These is a list on Suzukis website that you can print out. I have a 1999 'Limited' V6 with dual SRS airbags, but mine luckily, is not (at this stage at least) part of the recall. Car is only worth $3,250 at market value, but insured with $10k worth of mods. Keeping my fingers crossed. Rgs, Michael

Sorry for being off topic

Keep promising myself I'll do a build thread, but I've never posted a pic on here (all seems a bit hard really - happy for peoples to advise a cheap, as in no cost, option that I might actually be able to understand) so, as we know. it hasn't happened unless there are photos, so I haven't. Was with RACV, but last 3 years with Club 4x4, never had to make a claim, but seem to be good to deal with & understand 4WDrivers. Did have it insured for more, but the premium was getting a little out of hand, so lowered the value of mods. The $$$ is mainly in the diffs (ratio change & lockers) & suspension, but I have realistically valued replacement cost of lots of other stuff I have modified or custom built.

Just watched it and it had fuck all apart from people with old cars expecting a lot more than they're worth. One woman had an old AUDI who was clearly trying to hold onto the fact she had an "AUDI" but probably can't afford a newer car. She also reckoned it was a collector's item now.
But christover1 admitted on tv he has removed the airbag! Not sure that was too smart?

Could you remove the air bags and get an engineering certificate to keep it legal.
Also why are these people not using redbook to check the value of their car. Surely that's your best argument. Not how much money you wasted on it. The manufacturer didn't ask you to put mag wheels on.

Not unless the same model of vehicle was sold at the same time without airbags.
Case in point, back in 2003 or so we bought an R50 mini cooper S. Had side airbags in the seats. I wanted to replace the driver's seat with a Recaro SP-G (no airbag) but I was in luck, BMW had done the ADR paperwork to allow the side airbags to be deleted if the car was a JCW version with Sparco seats. They applied a sticker to the door jamb confirming the car had the airbag deleted but still complied with the applicable ADR. Back then, side airbags were far from the norm.
My FG ute was available with and without side airbags - so the car is ADR approved either way and an engineers cert would be easy.
Likewise, a mid 1990's discovery could be had with or without airbags in the same model year.
If the airbags were standard in the relevant year, I don't think you'd have much luck - you'd have to have an engineer sign off that despite not complying with the ADR, the car still provided adequate crash safety. I don't think may would be happy to do that.

So for reference and is why there probably isn't as many Grand Vitaras being recalled, the series 1 GV 98-00 was available with or without airbags in varying models.
So if what Steve is saying is an option it may well be applied to all other Grand Vitaras 98-05 being that the share exact same chasis/body..?..
You would like to think that Suzuki would do the same as per se BMW and find/offer their paperwork for the series 1 Grand Vitaras as an option (and a cheaper one than buying back) for people wishing to keep their cars. But I doubt it.
