Suzuki 4wd Club Victoria

Annual Trip #1 - Adventure Tour

Trip Facts
The Adventure Tour is a 3 day trip run over Victoria’s Labour Day long weekend. The trip borrows its name from Petersen's Offroad Ultimate Adventure, but doesn't include helicopters, Tom Boydd or (almost) any Jeeps.

The aim of the Tour is to drive 3 locations in 3 days and hit every hard track we can think of, plus anything else we find along the way. No by-passes and BYO Spare Parts.

The Tour is the annual trip that motivates vehicle build-ups within the club, and gives everyone a reason to get their junk out of the shed. Many a late night have been spent grinding and wrenching on rigs the week before the Tour, and it is almost always the test-trip for at least one un-proven build-up.

Trip Location and Accommodation
Previous Tour locations have included Wombat State Forest, The Otways, Yarra State Forest, Toolangi, Narbethong, Neerim, Gembrook and Labertouche.

Accommodation is typically a mix of camping, dorms, caravan parks, cabins and hotels. We try to stick to pub grub, bakery visits and take away as it keeps the cars light and leaves more room for spare parts.

Trip Standards
Due to the hard driving nature of The Tour, we run the following minimum standards for attendees:
1. Current Financial Membership (this covers us for Public Liability etc)
2. Minimum Vehicle Standards of 31s and a locker for Sierras, 35s and twin lockers for anything bigger. As a rule of thumb, most sierras on the trip will run twin lockers and a minimum of 33s.

Past Trip Coverage
The Tour has been running since 2001, and whilst many photos and grainy videos exist, some of the notable (and enjoyable) coverage can be found here:

The 2007 Adventure Tour was attended by the guys from Going 4wd. Their coverage can be found here (season 2, episode 7):
http://www.wasabitv.com.au/index.php?s=going4wd&season=s02

In 2010, the Tour was covered in Dirt Comp Magazine by resident photographer Mick Hurren.

The 2011 Adventure Tour also received the Mick treatment with this little video filmed on the second day.

No. A vitara would need 33's and twin lockers to keep up. Note that whilst 31's and one locker are the bare minimum for a Sierra, the recommended setup is 33's and twin lockers even for a Sierra. The tour isn't about bypasses or winching- hence it's the only trip each year with minimum standards.

Mine was the smallest build, 31s and twin lockers, extra narrow NT was my saving grace though, and I got quite a bit of panel damage.

I was just watching (lowest res after cahing for half an hour, stupid pidgon based internet) I forgot how much Dank got bogged and broken on that trip..
He was the slow car on this trip and he was on 34's with front locker and a very tight lsd in the rear. He was testing it before taking it on comps.

yeah and that was a jeep with small diffs and plenty of clearance. That car has come a long way since then, but it did make clear the point if your 4by isn't up to scratch you will break stuff and you will suffer :P whether out on the tracks or from the ridicule back at the pub after the days wheeling.

This trip has all the makings of legendary status and alot of it has to do with the group of people that attend.Such a mix of experience and backgrounds all with one common bond. Some of the funniest nights at the pub i've ever had.

I'm really looking forward to next years trip with a zook that has had a few trips under its belt. It's gonna be a blast.

Quick heads to any non-members who have any intention of joining us this year on the tour, you probably need to get along to the meeting this Wednesday to get your membership sorted, and get out on a trip in February to ensure your car is properly broken before the tour even starts.

Still includes a T-Shirt and stickers!

the carnage is on
nice and wet in yarra junction yesterday, greg blew a rear floater axle, a couple of very near rolls and nearly everyone has some form of near panel scaring inc my rig which has semi boat sided sills both sides and a smaller rear quarter panel ;).
the next two days are going to be interesting for the rest of the guys I think

Thanks for coming out AJSR. It was great to see the ash-tray up and going again :)

There are certainly a few cars in the club that are a few inches narrower than they were on Saturday morning.

The Tour is over for another year. Months of thrashing in the shed that always culminates in 2 things:
1. 3 days of the tour with the hardest driving we can find :D
2. 3 months of waiting for people to post up their photos and videos

Adventure Tour 2012

This year The Tour was run on the east side of Melbourne in Yarra Valley (Warburton), Gembrook and Labertouche state forests with the group based in Noojee.

We had between 6 and 7 cars attending each of the days:
gwagensteve - 3 days
gregc - 3 days
greyghost - 3 days
sierrajim - day 2 only
ajsr - day 1 only
jonno - 3 days
dank - 3 days
mika - 3 days

All participants were running sierras, twin lockers and a minimum tyre size of 33". This made for a (mainly) smooth running trip, with very few recoveries over the whole 3 days.

Day 1: Saturday - Warburton
Tracks:
Ellis Track
Ledge Track
Highlights:
I busted the rear short side axel (yes - one of the unbreakable ones)
AJSR got up the big wash out rut. Apparently he also came very close to rolling on Ledge Track

Day 2: Sunday - Gembrook
Tracks:
Cypress Hill
Andersons Track
Highlights:
Jonno and Mitch tried very hard to roll their cars on the Hill
Stevie trumped them both with a great roll
Andersons second last spoon drain is quickly becoming undriveable.

Day 3: Monday - Labertouche
Tracks:
Phasmid
Walkers
Robertsons
Bullock Link
Highlights:
Dank killed his battery, winch, will to live etc on Walkers
Stevie pulled some massive lines on the Bullock Link ledges

Event Coverage:
At this point we have two albums available for viewing:

Photos from all 3 days taken by Mick Hurren

Additional Photos from Day 2 taken by my other half
https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... e8c09e9d00

Mick will also be prepping an article for a coming issue of Dirt Comp Magazine, and a few short videos which will be available as soon as he is finished making them (hopefully not too long).

Hope it was worth the wait. :)

We also had 4 gopro cameras filming for pretty much the whole trip, so there is a good chance that the videos should be pretty good too.
